Evie's POV
Liam doesn't think it's safe for me to be out in public.
"Those guys are just lonely losers" I plead, wanting to just carry on with our normal Saturday routine.
"We can hang out at your house if you want, but I want you to be home." Ugh. He's so worried about everything. I nod, knowing that arguing will get me no farther.
When I get home I see a post-it on the wall in the entry way.
I stopped by to grab some clothes, I'm staying with a friend tonight because she lives closer to the hospital and I'm still on call. Hope you had fun with Liam. <3 Mom
It wasn't abnormal for her to do this since we lived a good 45 minutes from the hospital she worked at. She knew about my Saturdays with Liam, so she probably figured I would be home later.
"What's that?" Liam asked looking at the post-it note.
"My mom is just going to be out for the night."
"Okay, so, what do you want to do now?" He looks eager to do something, but before I could answer, the doorbell rang. I go to answer the door, terrified that it might be Erik or one of his posse. I open the door slowly, holding my breath.
"Oh my god!" I yell as a tall person wearing dark clothes grabs me.
"Why are you home so early? I thought you were spending the day out with Liam." I hear a worried Ben say as he holds me closer. I let out a sigh, realizing that he didn't grab me, he's hugging me. I relax into his arms as he half carries me to the living room. Liam follows, clearly confused.
"Hello, Ben," Liam says as he sits in the chair opposite us. Ben pulls me into his arms as I half lay on the couch next to him. Seeing that this made Liam uncomfortable, I sit up and move a little away from Ben. Ben doesn't seem to care.
"So why are you guys here instead of out having a Saturday?" Ben jumps right into why he came over.
I look at Liam and he seems to get the message because he starts explaining the IHOP incident. When he finishes the story, I see Ben looking a little worried at me, but then he looks away and goes completely straight-faced.
"That sucks" Ben finally says, cold toned. What was with him? He was just all over me, now he was acting like he didn't care at all. Not wanting to sit in awkward silence, I turn on TV and used that as an excuse to move to the other side of the couch. We stayed that way until Liam got a text from Alex.
Alex: We need to talk...
Liam: What about?
Alex: Where are you?
Liam: At Evie's. Want me to come over?
Alex: No, go to your house I have a surprise waiting for you.
Liam was showing me these texts, so, of course, I shooed him out of my house, telling him to have fun. I hope he and Alex work things out between them.
Ben's POV
I saw part of the texts on Liam's phone. I don't know what's going on between him and Alex, but that name sounds familiar. My friend, Tommi mentioned something about him being cute or something. Evie was sitting on my lap but by the end of the story I had to distance myself in order to make sure she didn't see my current texts.
Ben: Dude Erik is harassing Ev outside of school.
Tommi: I don't know what all he's doing, but my brother said his family is bad news.
Ben: Your brother?
Tommi: went to school with Erik's older brother- sketchy business going on in that family
Ben: what kind of sketchy
Tommi: Like his "gang" might actually be part of a gang. His brother has connections with some underground shit.
Ben: I'm with her now, but what do I do?
Tommi: I'm looking into it all, for now just stay with her and keep your eye out for unusual activity.
