Evie's POV

Now it was just me and Ben. Ben just sat there on his phone, ignoring me.

"What's up with you?" I demand.

"Nothing. It's just you..." He's trying to figure out the words, but I snap.

"Then why don't you just leave?" I say sitting in the chair Liam was just in.

"I can't" I raise my eyebrow slightly, waiting for him to go on." I have to make sure you're safe from those guys. Boss's orders." What boss? I wonder, but I don't push it. I go off to my room and read. Ben doesn't follow, but I know he's still here.

After about an hour, I hear a lot of movement outside the house. Looking out my window, I see nothing out of the ordinary. Someone mowing their lawn. A red jeep driving by, it was probably a neighbor or something. I go back to my book. Suddenly, my window flies open, and standing above me is Paul.

"Get out of my room!" I scream. Paul leans over me and covers my mouth with his hand.

"Erik just wanted to warn you against cheating on him. He doesn't want to be made a fool of." He smirks. What the hell? I lick Paul's hand, immediately he pulls it off of my mouth.

"Tell him I'm breaking up with him!" I'm still screaming. Just then, Ben bursts into my room tackling Paul off my bed and to the floor. They throw a few punches until Paul looks at me, and holds Ben up so they're both facing me.

"Ok," Paul says calmly, whispering in Ben's ear, "Ben, you heard the girl, she's breaking up with you." Paul smiles and pushes Ben out the window. I gasp. It wasn't that far of a fall, my room is on the first floor, but my house was on a slight hill and that's definitely going to hurt for Ben, seeing as he fell the farthest he possibly could have fallen off of the first floor. Paul looks at me with an evil smile on his face.

"Like that?" He smirks, then jumps out the open window and runs off. I don't see where because I'm watching Ben as he gets up and limps lazily to his house. I try calling after him, but he doesn't look back. OMG what is going on? I get up and lock all of my windows to my room and the front door. After that, I get in my bed and cry myself to sleep, wishing none of this was happening to me.

Ben's POV

Evie storms off to her room.  I know something is up with Erik besides him just being a pig and I don't want her to get hurt.  I pissed her off, though, I didn't mean to.  Tommi told me not to leave her and as far as I'm concerned he is kinda in charge of our investigation.  This has happened before, sort of.  Tommi and I have solved quite a few mysteries around the school such as who was stealing from the locker rooms during gym and someone taking test answers from the Chemistry teacher.  We aren't snitches unless real harm is being done, but this sounds a lot bigger than anything we've ever found before.

I see a red jeep drive past the house out of the corner of my eye, I wonder how new it was to the neighborhood.  Not long after, I hear Evie screaming something.  Fearing the worst, I sprint down to her room and burst open the door.  I see Paul laying over Evie on her bed.  Evie is freaked out and angry, while Paul seems to be enjoying his sick game, toying with Evie's emotions.

"TELL HIM I'M BREAKING UP WITH HIM!" she screams at Paul who seems to think that this is just a causual conversation.

I wasn't thinking.  I am definately inferior to Paul in any sort of fight.  I couldn't believe what I was seeing.  Before I know it, I'm on top of Paul on the other side of Evie's bed.  I throw a punch at his cheek, then his nose.  He doesn't seem to be affected by my blows.  He flips us over so I am pinned to the floor, he punches me square in the jaw.  I struggle to get up, but he keeps me pinned to the floor, before he suddenly stops.  The smirk on his face grows as he pulls me up partially by my hair and partially by my shoulders.  He yanks my hair to get me to turn my head.  I see Evie crying with such a confused look on her face.  She doesn't know what's going on.  Thanks to Tommi, I might have a clue, although, I don't know what Paul is doing breaking into her house.  She looks straight at me, tears streaming down her face.

"Ben," he speaks into my ear, his warm breath on my ear and neck sends shivers throughout my body, "you heard the girl, she's breaking up with you." I hear him chuckle and before I know it, I'm being dragged accross the room.

Suddenly, I'm falling and just as soon as I realized that, I had hit the ground.  I definately twisted my ankle.  I want nothing more than to go back to Ev, but I don't know what to think about her right now.  Breaking up with me? We weren't even dating.  I know she's upset right now, but I don't think I can help her without having some time alone for myself first.  I walk to my house, pain shooting up my leg every step I take. I need to ice my ankle and my face.  Never have I ever been more thankful that my mom wasn't coming home tonight.
