Evie's POV
After I finished the cup of hot chocolate and refused numerous snack offers, Melanie finally stopped trying to feed me. I was grateful really, but it just kind of seemed forced, as if she wanted to make up for those 2 years that Ben and I weren't besties. I hear the door open and click closed.
"Hey mom! I'm home! Evie's going to come over, I hope that's alright with you." He yelled, hoping that his mother was somewhere in the house where she could hear him.
"Oh Benny..." she sighed, walking down the stairs. She was putting her golden brown hair up in a pony as she approached Ben, who was a good deal taller than her. Looking up at her son, she continued, "Don't you think that information would've been nice to know a bit sooner?" She sounded as if she was scolding him, but from the kitchen, she looked totally calm.
"Yeah, sorry mom." Ben said genuinely. "I'll give you more notice next time."
"That won't be necessary." Melanie replies happily, "You know I love Evie, she's welcome here anytime. It's been great to finally see her again."
"Wait, what?" Ben asks, looking around, probably realizing that I'm here somewhere. "Is she here now?" Maybe I should be worried about the amount of concern in his voice.
"She's in the kitchen, you idiot. I can't believe you didn't tell me you guys were hanging out again." Melanie says laughing at her son's shocked face. Ben walks into the kitchen and sits down next to me. I can't be sure, but I think I see a hint of blush across his cheeks.
Ben grabs my hand and, in a hushed tone, says, "Hey, can we go upstairs? If we don't my mom is going to memorize every word we say to each other."
"Don't think I didn't hear that, Benny." His mother teases. She's now leaning against the counter, sipping either coffee or hot chocolate. Ben just rolls his eyes and drags me along up to his room. "I better not hear anything other than talking!" she yells up the stairs, making Ben definitely blush.
I swear, as far as parent embarrassment goes, Melanie takes the crown, and the medal, probably a trophy along the way. I probably would be more embarrassed by her words if I hadn't known her since 3rd grade.Ben's POV
I pull into the driveway to see that my mom is home. I should probably tell her Ev and I are hanging out.
After calling out that I was home and that Evie was coming over, my mother comes to greet me at the door, putting her hair up as she approaches me. She must mean business. She lightly scolds me and, per usual, teases me until I'm blushing like a tomato.
I don't know what comes over me, but I just grab Evie's hand and ask her to go up to my room so my mom wouldn't hear what we were planning to talk about. She seemed shocked at my gesture, but agreed. My mother make quite a rude statement on our way up to my room making me blush. Why was I blushing? I should be used to her teasing. Maybe if she hadn't just put ideas into my head that didn't exactly repulse me. Come on Ben, pull yourself together. You guys are just old friends, right?
A/N: Don't think that Evie's problems with Erik are over just yet. That would be no fun.
The feedback I've gotten on this story seems to be pretty much the same: I need better descriptions of the characters. I will definitely go back when the story is done and edit things in, but in the meantime, would you like a part with a character list and some more description of said characters? Let me know in the comments what you'd like to see. 💖 Kat_DG
