I run like hell towards the gas station. The lights getting brighter and brighter just like my changes of getting away from Erik. Finally, I run in and jump behind the person at the counter, fully prepared to explain my situation. They'll understand and help me out, right?
"What the hell do you thi--" The employee behind the counter starts, looking down at me. I look up at them.
"Oh, s-s-sorry T-tommi" I stutter, hoping he wouldn't make a scene.
"Evie?" He looks confused. "What're you doing here? What happened?"
"Umm, so Erik..." I start, but paranoia got the best of me. I quickly shut up and look through the window, watching for headlights.
"What about your boyfriend? Did he dump you?" He asked smirking. I know Erik has a reputation, but ouch. Would Tommi be so heartless to really ask a question like that?
"First off," I start, my voice in a soft whisper, "he's not my boyfriend. Secondly, I wish he would just dump me." Tommi officially looks confused.
Bzzzzzzzzzzzzz- bzzzzzzzzzz- Tommi's phone is buzzing, ending that awkward silence of him trying to figure things out. He picks it up and answers it.
"Hello." He says into the phone. "Uh, what do you mean 'have I seen Evie?'" I simultaniously freeze and let out a sigh. I don't know who he's talking to, but he seems like he's willing to hide me if he needs to. "Ben, I'm supposed to be working right now." It was Ben? "I can't just come get you..." he sighs before gasping "They did what?!" I'm so worried for him. What did they do? "You'll either have to wait until the end of my shift, or you can crawl your way up here yourself. Somehow Evie could get here without dying." So much for not blowing my cover. He hangs up.
"Is Ben okay?" I ask, suddenly realizing that he could be seriously hurt.
"I sure hope so." he sighs. "I'm going to call Alex to see if he can cover my shift." I nod as he makes the call. It wasn't until the door swung open, that I remember Alex is all wrapped up in this somehow.
"Hey Evie." Alex says in a scary voice that sent shivers down my spine.
"H-hi Ale-ex" My fearful stuttering only seemed to ammuse him. He sat behind the counter as Tommi leaves to go find Ben. I can't bear to think of what I'd do if he was seriously hurt. As weird as it sounds, Ben was just the person I needed right now. He made me feel safe, and Alex, made me feel uneasy.
After a good while, Alex looks down at me sitting on the floor behind the counter and says, "Are you sure you should be at a gas station, around cars?" Alex growled. "It would seem, you don't have a good track record with them recently." I gasp, he knows about tonight, and the jeep. His usually soft, chocolate-brown eyes seem black. The harshness of his voice and features cause me to visible shiver under his stare. He lets out a short laugh and turns back to organizing things behind the front counter. I lay my head back and almost fall asleep, until I hear the bell go off and the door swing open.
A/N: Comment what you think comes next. What kind of connections does Alex have with Erik? What do you think about Tommi, is he good or bad? Is Ben okay? Can you tell who has what drug yet (just tell me what you think)?
