My mom wakes me up. It's noon on Sunday.
"What's wrong sweetie?" she asks. God she's so clueless, but I don't want to make her worry.
"Nothing, I was just out late with Liam." I lie.
"Well, Ben stopped by earlier... are you two dating?" Ben? Why did he come over to my house?
"No mom, he's just a friend." She didn't by it. So she'll believe the lie about staying out late with Liam, but not the truth about my relationship with Ben? I roll my eyes and laugh. "What do you want to do today?" I ask her.
"I rented a few movies and bought microwave popcorn on my way home. I was hoping to have a movie day with you."
"Thanks." I give her a hug and we make our way to the TV.
We have movie days on the weekends my dad is away on business trips, which is quite often. I'm not even sure where he is half the time. He's gone so much, when he's home, it feels almost awkward. At least for me. I'm sure my mom is glad to have him home.
I enjoy spending time with my mom, but today's awesomeness is tainted by my paranoia. I get a text from an unknown number.
Unknown #: Hey Evie. I stopped by earlier. Can we talk?
Me: Ben? please tell me that's you and not someone else.
Ben: yeah it's Ben. I'm sorry, your mom gave me your number earlier.
Me: I can't talk right now. Catch me sometime at school tomorrow.
I'm sure whatever he has to say can wait until tomorrow. If it was super important he would've called or come over himself. I'm still confused about how he acted from yesterday. He really seemed annoyed by me, so I'm just going to leave him be.
At the end of the day, my mom and I go off to bed. She seemed really concerned over the fact I had school tomorrow, so I decide to just go to sleep rather than stay up. My phone buzzes. It's an alert from the school's website.
Hello,
As you may know, we are getting a new security system at our school starting tomorrow. Students, please stop by the office before going to your 1st period class. The office will give you a pass and you will not be marked tardy. Everyone with an open 1st period must stop by the office on their way in for 2nd period, same applies with the pass. Thank you, in advance, for your cooperation in helping to keep our school safe.
Sincerely,
Principle Gil Martin
Gee can't wait. We're probably getting a new school ID or something stupid. I decide to just go to sleep. Tomorrow's going to happen whether I'm ready for it or not, so I might as well be ready.
