I decide that I'm driving Ben to school because of his arm still being in a sling. So after we go over to my house so I can get ready, that's just what I do.
"Evie." Ben whines.
"What?" I ask annoyed. He was still upset that he wasn't the one driving me around. How can one be such a gentleman and a baby all at once?
"Can I drive us home?"
"No." Luckily, he stops asking to drive after that.
Walking into the school together this morning was not the best idea we've ever had. We were met just inside the door by none other than, you guessed it, Erik. I wish we could just go home and forget about him and his gang, but we couldn't. I was carrying Ben's bag in my hand because I didn't want him to hurt his shoulder. That was also an argument that Ben lost this morning.
"What're you doing Evelyn?" Erik asked. I look to just walk past him, only to see Jarrod and Paul on either side of us, effectively trapping us in, yet managing not to totally cut off the flow of students walking into the hall. "I asked: What're you doing Evelyn?" Erik asked again, this time raising his voice.
"I don't know, trying to get to class maybe." I reply, quickly regretting the sass that passed my lips.
"Evie, what're you doing with Ben?" Erik growls as he takes a step closer to us.
"Um, I was just carrying his bag since you screwed up his shoulder." I try to hide the fear in my voice. Ben notices and I feel his hand rest against the small of my back in an attempt to comfort me.
"I did no such thing, Evelyn. I was with you when that happened." He growls, then pauses. He noticed Ben's hand move to my back. A smirk spreads across his face. "I suppose I broke his hand then too." He nods towards Ben's arm. "Oh, wait..." he pauses, looking at the ceiling dramatically thinking. "I'm thinking 5 minutes into the future." He snarls at the two of us.
"Mr. Beck, could I see you in my office please." Principal Martin calls down the hall, apparently witnessing this whole incident. Erik turns around to face him, nods once, and walks away with the principal. Paul and Jarrod soon disperse and Ben and I finally let out our breaths that I didn't realize we were holding.
"Thank goodness for Mr. Martin, am I right?" I sigh.
"Ev, have you forgotten?" Ben asks, now worried.
"Forgotten what?"
"About Mr. Martin?" Oh, shoot. This wasn't a thank goodness. This was an 'OMG what the hell will come next?' Ben saw that I remembered, and just gave me a half hug. "It'll be okay, Ev. I won't let anyone hurt you." I only nod. I was glad he was willing to protect me, but I was more worried about him. Erik's gang did a number on Ben, and I don't think he would be able to put up much of a fight if they did anything again soon.
The bell rang and Ben and I part ways after I make sure he had his backpack on his good shoulder securely.
A/N: Whoop! or Oh dear! Comment what you think will happen next! What do you think Principal Martin wants to talk to Erik about? How would Ben react if they get confronted again? How does this confrontation affect Ben and Evie's relationship?
