Evie's POV

"Ben. Ben. Ben." I repeat in short staccatos, trying to get his attention.

"hmm?" He hums, finally acknowledging me, but not taking his eyes off of the breakfast he was making.

"What did Liam want?" I ask, wondering about their conversation earlier this morning.

"What do you think of him and Alex getting back together?" Ben asks. Is this supposed to answer my question?

"I don't know. I guess I'd be a little worried since Alex was so willing to cheat on him. Plus, his boyfriend just died." I state these facts, thinking it through. Ben just nods, now plating our beautiful toast and scrambled eggs.

Just as we began to eat, you know who bursts through the door. No, not Voldemort, silly. The one, the only, Mother Melanie Micheals.

"'Sup putas?" She shouts in a very happy voice. Someone's having a good day.

"Mom, did you just-" Ben starts.

"Call you bitches in Spanish? Yes, yes I did." She says matter-of-factly and gives us a smile. Ben just shakes his head in awe.

"Hey, Melanie," I say.

"Good morning dear. Fancy seeing you here." She says that last part with a wink to Ben, causing me to almost snort orange juice out my nose.

"Mommmm" Ben groans, his face turning a deep red.

"Oh hush, I'm just messing with ya." She half scolds.

"Yeah just messing with ya," I repeat, kissing the top of his now burning red nose. "You look like Rudolph with all that blushing." I tease.

"Evvvvv" He groans again.

"Oh, shoot!" I say as I remember something important. "You gotta take your pills." I grab them off the counter and hand the pills to Ben, who gladly takes them.

"Thanks, that could've been painful if we forgot." He says, giving me a kiss. I smile up at him once our lips pull apart.

"Sha-la-la-la-la-la, don't stop now, don't try to hide it how you wanna kiss the girl" Melanie starts singing the tune from The Little Mermaid.

He smiles down at me after glaring at his mother. I couldn't help but laugh. "You're cute." He laughs. I pull one hand from around his waist, up to his face.

"Boop," I say, tapping his nose.

"Ooh, she got you." His mother laughs. Oh. His mother. I forgot how crazy she could get.

"Why are you so crazy today?" Ben asks.

"Today is gonna be a good day, I can just feel it." She explains.

"Is it the caffeine/ sugar high from the night shift talking?" Ben questions, raising an eyebrow at her.

"No!" She exclaims, "Ben, stop trying to ruin it. You'll see, today's gonna be a good day." She assures.

"You've gone insane!" Ben exclaims, laughing at his mother's quirkiness.

"Maybe I have" She laughs, walking out of the kitchen. "You kids have fun now!" she yells, still walking away, "Just not too much fun"

Ben's POV

Ev went home to change her clothes soon after my mother's freak show earlier. While Evie was gone, my mom decided to have a sit-down with me.

"So Ben..." She starts. I just give her the 'please don't make this awkward' look. "You and Evelyn have been getting really close..."

"Mommm," my warning comes out as a groan.

"Ben, just listen. I'm a medical professional, so I see what kids your age get up to. I just want to make sure you are being safe." She says as if it was the most normal conversation ever.

"Mom! We're not doing anything! We're both happy where we are. We don't need to rush things." I explain, flustered in embarrassment.

"Well, that's nice to hear." She says, contently. "If you do need to talk about any of that, please don't hesitate to ask, though." She offers.

"I'm good, thanks." I groan. "Hey mom, I want to do something special for Evelyn as soon as my shoulder heals up. And I want it to be a surprise." I start thinking outloud and my mom's face lights up.

"Oh, awwwwwww" she coos.

We start talking and planning something for over spring break since my arm should be healed by then and it'll be nice after having to go back to school. I don't want to go to school but Cassandra told us not to worry about our homework since she already did it for us. I felt bad about that but, at the same time, if it helped her cope, then it's a win-win.
