(Whytnie’s POV)

“You’re really going to do this?” Caleb asked, his hand playing with my hair. He hadn’t really said much about what we’d learned. He didn’t comment about my stuff being packed up and shipped back home. He didn’t say much of anything lately. It bothered me more than moving back home before my school year was even over.

“Do what?” I asked quietly. We were sitting on the living room couch, the T.V. wasn’t on and we had just been sitting here in silence. Zander was out with Zuri, who had changed drastically over the past couple of days. She used to be all like, “Harry Styles of One Direction this” and “Harry Styles of One Direction that”, now she’s all about being quiet or if asked giving one-worded answers. Like, how are you feeling today, Zuri? Fine. How was your class today, Zuri? Okay. What would you like for dinner? Whatever. I mean, inside she was probably freaking out about what was going down, but she didn’t want to act like anything was the matter with her. I couldn’t really blame her. I was trying to do the same.

Maybe the whole rumor patrol going overboard was affecting her. They had a bunch of vicious lies about One Direction breaking up. Harry decided to leave the band because his girlfriend got “knocked up”. Well, that was the biggest rumor going around. People were freaking out and I couldn’t blame them. I was the reason why they were attacking the boys, especially Harry. He hadn’t said much about the matter, only that I knew he deleted his Twitter and Instagram accounts. I felt bad for him. He didn’t deserve this.

            Damn my selfishness.

“You’re really going to leave?” Caleb’s question brought me back to the present. He was still playing with my hands, not meeting my eyes. “Don’t you think that you should stay here, get checked up here? Why risk all this time when you could be here getting treated?”

“My family wants me back home,” I reply and shrug. A knock came at the door, Caleb sighed before getting up and going to answer the door. There were whispers before Harry and Caleb walked into the living room, neither one of them meeting my eyes. I sighed really loudly and dramatically before they both sat down, making me sit in the middle.

No one said anything. The silence was going to kill me, literally, before my leukemia got around to doing the deed.

Yeah, I know, shouldn’t even joke about it, but if I don’t then there’s tension there that really shouldn’t be.

“So what are we doing tonight?” I asked, hoping they’d come up with something fun rather than hanging around doing nothing. They were really starting to irritate me.

“What do you want to do?” Harry asked as Caleb shrugged.

“Let’s go have fun,” I said with as much enthusiasm as I could. The boys didn’t say anything. Nothing at all. They didn’t even look up. “I’m sick and tired of you two treating me like I’m gonna die today. I’m not! Okay? Can we just move on? I don’t want to talk about it, and you guys are acting like I’m some fragile being that will die if you just look at me! Now put on your damn smiles and let’s go!”

Harry’s eyes went wide as he looked over at me, but Caleb was smirking. Finally, he was starting to act like himself again.

Caleb got off the couch and held out his hand to help me up, and I gladly took it while pulling Harry up with me. He had this worried look but I ignored it. Tonight we were going to have some fun after all I’m leaving in a few days. This was going to be my last time in London. It was kind of sad really. But now was not the time to start crying. Again.

(Whytnie’s POV)

“Don’t cry,” Caleb whispered as his arms tightened around me. I couldn’t help it. My eyes were betraying me as I leaned my head on his chest. This was NOT happening. It couldn’t really be happening. Not now! And I promised!

“How can I not cry?” I whined. Man, I was starting to whine way too much lately.

“Come on,” Harry said calmly. “After all,” I ignored how his voice was starting to sound very acid like, “he will be joining us all too soon.”

“Oh, cheer up, mate,” Caleb said, patting one hand on Harry’s shoulder, without letting me go with his other. “At least you’ll have more time with her.”

“And I should!” I rolled my eyes and pushed away from Caleb. I was definitely not getting in the middle of that anymore. Those two guys, the ones that mean the most to me, could not put aside their differences for one freaking hour! Irritated, I moved over to Emily and gave her a big hug. She was smiling and crying at the same time, trying to be strong for me but failing completely. I give her an A for effort, which is more than I can say about the bickering two year olds behind me.

Moving on to Niall, he hugged me tightly and whispered in my ear, “We’ll see each other in a month, don’t miss me too much.” I giggled as I moved on to Liam. The rest of the lads were just as reassuring and all, I had to try my hardest not to cry.

Harry and Caleb finally stopped squabbling and Harry went to tell his friends goodbye. Caleb held open his arms for me, but I shook my head and took his hand instead. Peering closely at it, he gave me a weird look that I felt more than saw.

“What are you doing?” he asked.

“I’m proud of you,” I replied and looked up at him. We both smiled at each other. “You’re going to do great things.” I winked at him and he started snickering. “And I’m glad you found someone like Brittney to keep you company when I’m gone.” We both started crying when I said the word “when”. Now was the final goodbye. Well, for now. He was coming to see me as soon as he finished with school. I don’t know how much Brittney liked that idea, because she wasn’t very fond of me, but I was still excited that he was going to come see me. Well, despite the situation I’m in.

“Is it weird that I already miss you?” Caleb asked.

Harry cleared his throat and muttered, “Yes.” I rolled my eyes and jumped into Caleb’s arms giving him one last hug. For now. I had to keep reminding myself. After a few long moments, Harry sighed. “Your parents are going to be really mad if we miss our flight.”

“Promise me something,” I whispered in Caleb’s ear. “Promise me that you’ll learn to rinse off your dishes when you’re finished using them.” We both started laughing. It really annoyed me because he never did that in all this time we’d lived together. Finally, I made him do the dishes if he wasn’t going to do one simple task.

“I only did it to irritate you,” he joked. As he let me down, he bent over to kiss me on the cheek. No way was I looking over at Harry now. “I’ll see you.” Caleb and I agreed there would be no saying the word “goodbye” because it was NOT the end yet.

Please don’t cry again. Stop! Stop crying! You promised! Man, I don’t think I’m ever going to stop crying.

“I’m going to miss you,” I said before I let Harry intertwine our fingers. Caleb and I shared one last look before Harry and I left to board the plane. Once we were out of sight, he put his arm around me and I leaned into him for support.

“Everything’s going to be okay,” he lied and kissed me on the top of my head. “Everything’s going to be just fine.”

            Except that it wasn’t.
