(Whytnie’s POV)
One more thing to cross off my list: learn how to bake, from scratch, a cake which is very nicely decorated with that weird nasty frosting that people use to decorate cakes. My father’s kitchen was a complete mess. Cake batter, all of my failed attempts, burned ones that didn’t work out, flour covering every inch of everything I could see (considering Harry started a fight, where Caleb became victorious making Harry and I team up on him and take him down with mushy dough from one of my failed attempts), and dirty pots and pans scattered around on the counters, in the sink or on the floor.
“My dad’s going to kill me,” I say once we finished. Harry sighed and looked around while Caleb was still trying to get the remains of the liquid dough out of his hair. I laughed, ignoring the fact that we should start cleaning up before my dad got home. “Where’s the camera at, Harry?”
“Oh no!” Caleb argued. He took a few cautious steps back, slipped on some flour that was scattered on the floor and tumbled down as he landed on some pans. He yelped out and started rubbing a sore spot on his arm. Harry rolled his eyes and helped Caleb to his feet. “Thanks, mate.”
“You don’t thank for this,” I quoted Neytiri from Avatar. They both gave me weird looks, trying to ignore my weird dorkishness. Harry rolled his eyes as Caleb shrugged. Caleb started to pick out the dough in his hair as Harry retreated out of the kitchen to where his camera was. I watched Caleb, and once he thought he had it all out, I threw more at him. His eyes widened as a wicked smile took over.
“Round two on!” He retaliated as I squealed out as I was hit in the face with some cookie dough. I glared at him as I picked more up and threw it at him, but he was quick and dodged out of the way.
As I picked more cake batter up, arm outstretched to throw, Caleb in the same position, Harry walked in and chastised us with one look. We both dropped our arms and gave him sheepish looks. He rolled his eyes. “You’re dad’s going to kill us if we don’t get this cleaned up soon.” He walked over to me and handed me the camera, not even minding that my hands were covered in chocolate cake batter. I wiped most of it off before taking a picture of Caleb, who posed like he was Heracles with his muscles clearly showing. Harry grunted as he started picking up the remains. I laughed at Caleb’s expression before turning towards Harry. He stopped cleaning and took the camera away from me before taking a confused/shocked picture of me. His smile made me forget being angry.
“It’s your turn now,” I reply and hold out my hand.
Shaking his head, he replied, “And have proof that I was behind all of this?” He looked around the kitchen and laughed. “I don’t think so.”
“My dad doesn’t have to see these!”
“But what if by accident he does? It’ll just put the blame on Caleb and you, not me.” He winked and I started glaring again.
“You’re the one that started this fight!”
“You were the one that threw it first!”
“I,” I stopped, because it was true. He was playing with the cake batter, decided to draw a mustache on my face, and then I threw some back at him. Well, he moved out of the way and it hit Caleb in the face. He retaliated, and soon the kitchen was a disaster. We were all covered in cookie dough and cake batter. I just hoped it didn’t take long to get it out of my hair.
Harry and Caleb went silently back to work, cleaning up the big chunks off the floor. I started piling the dishes in the sink and then went on to cleaning the counters. After about a while of that, Caleb and Harry had the floors cleaned and Caleb was working on cleaning the dishes while Harry started mopping. I was still trying to scrape off the hard dough on the counters when the timer beeped. Well, we hadn’t fought for long before we were all covered up in chocolate cake batter and M&M cookie dough.
