(Harry’s POV)
“Don’t you have anything better to do?” I asked Caleb, who was still hanging around. I mean, of course he’d want to stay until the wedding. Why wouldn’t he? I needed to stop this. I wasn’t a child anymore. We were both adults. Yeah, whatever, he may be older than me but he can act just as immature as me. But I needed to stop this crazy behavior. It’s only pushing Whytnie away, and Caleb knows how to play her. He can antagonize me but won’t actually lash out or anything, making me look like the bad guy in front of Whytnie. He was really starting to get on my nerves. Well, more than the usual.
“Let’s just call it a truce? I’m throwing up my white flag.” He pretends to wave a flag around, giving me a big smile. He was such a liar. “Besides, being Whytnie’s best friend,” I tried not to flinch too much that he’s still her best friend and I’m not, something Caleb doesn’t fail to flaunt in my face, “I’ll end up being−”
“The maid of honor? I hope she makes you wear a bright pink dress.” I laugh as he scrunches up his face with disgust.
“Wouldn’t be the first time,” he then jokes back and winks. I roll my eyes. “What? I don’t try to play the innocent like somebody.” He nods in my direction and my eyebrows shoot up. Didn’t he just call a truce? See what I mean? Antagonizing me! And then when I try to fight back, Whytnie magically shows up to reprimand me.
Waiting a couple seconds to make sure Whytnie doesn’t magically appear, I glance around, knowing Caleb’s mocking me the whole time. When it becomes clear she isn’t around, I open my mouth to fight back. I don’t get any words out though. Whytnie does walk in, sensing the tension in both of our body languages; she gives us both hard looks.
“What’s going on?” She’s more annoyed than worried though.
“Just talking,” I reply and shrug. Caleb gives me one long look before Whytnie looks over at him, all animosity hidden from her. He puts on his most charming smile and rushes to hug her. My hands ball into fists when the hug lasts longer than it should. I don’t say anything. The last thing I want right now is another fight with Whytnie. She can be so irritating sometimes, but I know she’s the kind of girl to rush to conclusions rather than listen to the voice of reason. I know this!
I also know that if Caleb doesn’t let go of my girlfriend, he’ll end up with a black eye at the wedding.
As if sensing my thoughts, Caleb lets go, sends me a wink that Whytnie doesn’t notice, as Whytnie walks past him and into my arms. If it weren’t for Caleb, and the fact I don’t want to start another fight with Whytnie, I would’ve kissed her. She hates ‘PDA’ too much. Caleb must know this because he gives me a look over Whytnie’s shoulder. He’s egging me on, and I don’t know how long I can play nice with him before snapping.
“How are you?” I asked Whytnie, totally ignoring the annoying kid in the background.
“Tired.” She shrugs. Automatically my overprotective side comes out.
