[Sometime Later]
(Harry’s POV)
Smiling, it’s all I could do now. Elated would probably be an understatement of how I really feel. I mean, Whytnie wasn’t dead. She was still alive and breathing. We’ve gotten remarried recently without fearing if she would die tomorrow. We’re pretty lucky. She’s a true miracle all in her own. And now? Now she was pregnant and happier than she’s ever been. We’re fighting a whole lot less, well, mostly about the small stuff. But it’s nothing we can’t work out.
She’s easy to figure out. When she’s angry, she gets mad and throws a tantrum until she calms down and everything is okay. She’s like that. Crazy one moment until her heart beat slows and she’s realizing how irrational she’s being. Of course, she’s not the only one, which she constantly reminds me of.
Anyway, she also reminds me of how she’s got all these extra hormones and that it’s perfectly logical to freak out when I don’t get her the right kind of “ice” at like three in the morning. She also explains how it’s acceptable to just get mad for no reason at all. It’s all a part of the process. So is it my fault that she starts freaking out when I roll my eyes? Especially since she’ll do it a couple of seconds later?
Sighing, I glance down at my phone as the screen lights up to reveal a very happy looking Whytnie holding up a sonogram. I can’t help but smile all over as my phone beeps. Sometimes I wonder if we’re in synch or connected in more ways than one, because whenever I’m thinking about her she’ll end up texting or calling me.
Even now, I try not to cry as I answer the phone. “Hey, beautiful.”
“Yo?” I almost roll my eyes because that one word reminds me of one person: Caleb. Even after all this time, I can’t get over it. They’re closer than ever, unfortunately. At least Whytnie’s going back to school until the baby arrives, and he no longer is going to school in London. “I just wanted to wish you good luck, and I’m proud of you.”
“Thanks, love. I miss you. How are you feeling?”
“Just peachy.” She laughs. “Well, I just wanted to make sure you were okay.”
“Why wouldn’t I be okay?”
“Because you’ve been freaking out lately, worried about what everyone else is thinking. Just know that I love you, the lads love you, our baby is going to love you, my family loves you, your family loves you, and, um, our cat loves you.”
“Are you making sure to feed him?” I can just hear the eye roll.
“Of course!” She sighs. “Anyway, I’ve got a lot to do,” the doorbell rings on her end of the phone, “and I think Caleb just got here.” Oh, great. Caleb was going to be spending the next month with Whytnie. So looking forward to that. “Emily was supposed to be flying in sometime soon, I think. Hey, have you heard what they’re saying about Niall and Emily?”
Yeah. “No.”
“Well, it isn’t very pretty.” The doorbell rings again. “Anyway, someone’s here, I’ve got to go. Just remember I love you and call me when you’re done. Oh, and I miss you too, dork.”
“I love you, too. Oh, and be careful.” Sighing, we say goodbye one more time before hanging up. I don’t have much time to dwell on what Whytnie and Caleb must be doing now, it helps when I think about her having my baby, because my interview is about to start.
A guy named “Chad” walks in a moment later to lead me towards the stage area, where I’ll be the first one interviewed. They told me it’s because everyone is mostly interested in me, being gone for so long and now I was coming back. So I put on a smile, mentally preparing myself for what’s to come. Before I can fully get my heartbeat under control, I’m being summoned to the stage. Katherine, the interviewer, smiles politely and then pulls me in for a big hug. She’s thrilled to see that I’m back in the band and the whole crowd starts freaking out as well.
“So how does it feel to be away from home?” she asks, once everyone’s quiet enough to hear my own beating heart. We have both sat down on the nice looking but very uncomfortable chairs in the middle of the stage.
“Weird.” I shrug and smile. “But I know I’ll be home soon enough. Oh, and soon I’ll be going home to my two favorite girls.” I know I’m smug about it, but I can’t help but feel excited.
Katherine smiles, like she’s trying to understand why I’m so excited. Instead she asks, “How are things with Whytnie? After that whole illness scare, how is she doing?”
“Just fine. She’s getting her life back on track, and she’s also irritated that it took a lot of her time. She’s mad she isn’t where she should be in school, but she’s thankful she’s alive. We all are.”
“How does it feel to be back in One Direction?”
“Feels great. I’ve really missed being in the band. Even though I never really lost touch with the lads, it just didn’t feel the same. Now we’re back to hanging out all the time, even though it’s really hard to leave Whytnie, I’m counting down the days until I’m home again. But she knows this is where I need to be, and I can’t wait for what’s to come.”
“And neither can I, hun. I already pre-ordered the new album.”
“Oh, you’re going to love it. We’ve really changed and matured since the last time.”
“Well, obviously. Married and starting your family already. You haven’t even turned twenty-four yet. How is that? Feel like you’re life moved too fast?”
I thought about that for a second before answering. “No. Most people my age are still trying to figure out what they want out of life, but I know what I want. I married who I want, and now I’m doing exactly what I want. To say I regret anything would be a misjudgment. I don’t. I’m perfectly happy with my life right now. I wouldn’t change anything.”
“So how does Whytnie Styles feel about all of this? Has things changed? I mean, she did almost die.”
“No, she did die. But only for a couple moments. They brought her back, and she hasn’t shown any symptoms of any kind of illness now. To say that things have changed would be an understatement. They have, dramatically. But we both have changed. We needed to. She doesn’t take life for granted and neither do I. We’re both trying to get our lives on track again.”
“So what’s going to happen when Whytnie has the baby?” I smile at the ground, excited for what’s to come.
“I’ll be given paternity leave,” I joke back. “I’ll be there, no matter what. We’ve kind of already worked out a schedule that goes around the time my daughter is due.”
“Got this all figured out, have we?” I nodded feeling pretty proud of myself. “Well, you heard it here first, folks! Harry Styles is back in One Direction, his wife is still alive and expecting. Things are starting to look better. Stay tuned, we’ll be back after the commercial with Niall Horan of One Direction. Maybe he’ll explain what’s going on with his girlfriend after the recent rumors have been, well, to put it mildly: rather cruel.”
