(Harry’s POV)
I guess I don’t really know how to feel exactly. Whytnie’s grip tightens as they call her name, and as her parents motion for us to get up, all I can think about is the fear Whytnie must be feeling. She didn’t say much last night, nor did she say anything really this morning. At breakfast, which I noticed her just moving around her food without eating one bite, she tried to smile and play it off but she failed. There was pain and worry clearly there, but I didn’t want to force her to talk about it. She wasn’t like that. When she wanted to talk to you, she did. You couldn’t rush her, no matter how much I hated it.
A loud buzzing makes Whytnie jump and pull out her phone. Her father glares in her direction, trying to get her to hurry up. Her mother just looks weak and fragile, not as much as Whytnie but pretty close. I sigh and get up to tower over Whytnie as she reads her new message.
Everything is going to be fine, I promise, no matter what they tell you I know you’re going to make it through this just fine. It was from Caleb. Another buzzing made her whole arm shake as the new message loaded. Don’t forget that I wish I was there for you, oh, and I love you, you dork.
I didn’t even want to see what Whytnie replied back. Instead I took one of her hands and pulled her along towards the waiting nurse. Her parents glance back at her every other second while she focuses on typing with one hand. I look down at her phone as she hits the send button, and her message is then displayed.
Thanks, and I love you too, you dork. Hope there’s a cure. Not just for Zuri but for me, as well. Wish I was there.
Another buzzing sound, and I swear this is the longest walk ever.
Wish you were here too. We’d have a The Lord of the Rings marathon right now, trying to ignore the insanity that is Zuri and her bipolar disorder.
Whytnie starts laughing, but it sounds subdued like she wants to laugh but can’t.
“Hey,” I whisper as the nurse finally stops at a room. Her parents go in without hesitation, but I hold Whytnie back. “No matter what happens in there, just know that I won’t leave. And, I love you.” Leaning closer, I smiled as she met me half way. We both kissed for a couple of seconds before someone clears their throat. Whytnie puts her phone back in her purse and laces my fingers with hers as she walks into the room. I look down at the ring on her finger and pray for the best.
She’s scared, but so am I. I can’t show how scared I really am, but inside I’m screaming.
