"That went better than expected." Laughed John, who collapsed onto his bed. "Nice to be back 'ome ay?"

"Well, the screaming and lectures were only a record breaking 20 minutes long this time." I laughed, checking the watch on my wrist. "Quite miraculous considering the circumstances. I thought we'd be down their arguing 'till Christmas!"

It took a lot of back talking between the two, and both had many good arguments, and although John and Mimi were never going to see eye to eye, Mimi was far too absorbed in John's welfare to jeopardise him leaving her; she loved him too much. They'd practically called for a cease fire for the sake of John anyway.
It was obvious Mimi was still hurt, but I was certain that if Julia was to talk to her, things could begin to get better again.

"However, I though 'Surprise Mimi', was a little harsh John." I giggled lightly. "She'd been waiting weeks for that surprise."

"Well, what can I say?" He shrugged.

I shook my head in disproval, though couldn't help but crack a smile.

"Anywho, this calls for celebration." John cheered, standing triumphantly upon his bed as though he'd just conquered it. "What do you say we go out for dinner my dear lady?"

"Dinner? Just the two of us?" I questioned, rather taken aback by the direction John had taken things.

"Nothing serious Sam." He chuckled, hopping from the bed and taking my hands in his. "We've been friends for so long now, it's not like we're going out for dinner in that way or anything."

"Er, wel-"

"Unless you wanted to?" He added abruptly, gazing wondrously into my eyes like child.

"John, I-" I began, struggling to even swallow as my throat had become so dry.

"Samantha, your mother just phoned." Called Mimi from the kitchen. "She wants you back home for dinner."

I wondered if I was ever going to manage to get a word out, as it seemed Mendips was a place where I was always interrupted. Instead, I nodded apologetically to John, dropping his hands from mine awkwardly as I left.

"Maybe some other time then?" He smiled nonchalantly. "We'll reschedule?"

"Um, sure." I said feebly, before leaving his room in a dazed state.
