After a few minutes, we both fell back asleep. When we woke up, it was 10 am.
Danny: I have to pick up Grace today for makeup time since Rachel and Stan cancelled their trip the other day and I didn't get to see Grace.
Me: Awesome! I'm glad I finally get to meet her.
Danny: Well how would you like to pick her up from school today and bring her by the palace? (Just in case you didn't know, Five-0 HQ is inside the Iolani Palace)
Me: I would love that. And maybe we could stop and get some shaved ice or go surfing?
Danny: Sure that's fine by me. I have to work all day today anyways and I'm sure she doesn't want to go sit in my office and do nothing.
Me: Great. I'll have to go by Steve's and get my stuff. I left it with him yesterday by accident.
Danny: I can drive you there if you want.
Me: Ok sounds good.

Later in Steve's driveway...

Me: Thanks for the ride Danny. I'll see ya later.
Danny: Bye.
I knocked on Steve's door and waited for him to open it. After a minute he came and unlocked the door.
Steve: Where have you been? I've been calling your phone like crazy!
Me: I was with Danny. You knew that.
Steve: Where'd you stay last night? I thought you checked out of the hotel.
Me: Like I said I was with Danny. Does it matter?
Steve: Yes it matters! I don't want you cozying up to him that much.
Me: I don't think it's any of your business.
Steve: It is my business. My best friend and my sister together doing God knows what. Of course it's my business!
Me: Chill! God I'm 27 years old! I don't think it's up to you what I do!
I turned to leave and he grabbed my wrist. Combat instincts kicked and and I swung my leg around, kicking him in the face. His nose bled.
Me: Oh my God Steve I'm so sorry. Combat instincts kicked in. I'm so sorry.
Steve: It's ok. I should've known better than to grab your wrist like that. But what I don't understand is why your combat instincts kicked in. Is there any way you may have a touch of PTSD Jesse?
Me: There's no way. I can hear loud noises and it never affects me.
Steve: There are different types of PTSD. Were you ever in hand to hand combat?
I shuddered.
Steve: I'll take that as a yes. Come in here and sit down. I'm gonna go get some ice for my face.
Steve walked to his kitchen. I sat on the couch and put my face in my hands. It had been years since the hand to hand combat situation I'd been in. Steve came back into the living room and sat down across from me.
Steve: Well go on.
Me: What do you mean?
Steve: Tell me what happened.
Me: Ok well before I was a SEAL sniper, I was a fighter pilot. I was out on a mission helping some Marines with air support in a raid so I was over land. When we got there, the Taliban group we were fighting had 1 jet, just like us. The jet came at me and we had a dogfight. Eventually, I chased him away and above this big flat open plain. He got into my jet wash and completely lost control. When he did, he hit my plane too. We both went down. My NFO ejected us and at the same time, the Taliban pilot and his FO ejected. My NFO and his FO both died because debris from the planes her them in major arteries. When me and the other pilot hit ground we were about 100 feet away from each other. I took off my parachute and he took off his and we went running at each other. Since neither of us had weapons, we were forced to have a hand-to-hand battle. I was able to block his punches and kicks and then he grabbed my wrist. I kicked my leg up and hit him in the face. Then he pushed me down and when I was on the ground I was able to grab a sharp piece of metal debris. I turned around and stabbed him with it. He bled out and I used a satellite phone to get a rescue helicopter up in the air to help me since I was on the whole other side of the mountain range from the Marines. When help finally got there, I was shaken up pretty bad. I stayed at the base in Kabul for a week helping out with Intel. They said it was too dangerous to send me back out in a plane after the traumatic experience. From there I transferred to being a SEAL sniper.
Steve: Wow. I didn't realize that'd happened. I'm really sorry.
Me: It's ok. I promise I'll be fine. I have plans today and I have to be at a school in about 4 hours and I'm still in my pajamas and I have to go the car dealership and pick up my new ride.
I grinned when I said "new ride."
Steve: Wait, a school? Plans? New ride? What are you talking about?
Me: I'm picking up Grace to spend the day with her and get to know her. And as far as the new car goes, I talked to a friend at the dealership and she hooked me up with a sweet ride.
Steve: Oh ok. Well in that case, you better go get ready. What kind of car is it?
Me: It's a black mustang with orange racing stripes. Pretty cool huh?
Steve: Yeah, it is.
Me: Hey where's Catherine?
Steve: She's already at the palace. She went in early to do some research on a case we got. Speaking of the case, I have to go. Will you be ok here by yourself? And how are you getting to the dealership?
Me: Yes I'll be fine and my friend Katie that works at the dealership is picking me up and taking me.
Steve: Alright well be safe.
Me: I will.
Steve: See you later Jesse.
Me: Bye.
Steve walked out the door and I got in the shower. After I got out of the shower, I fixed my hair and got dressed. I put in my bikini and over it I put on shorts and a grey tank top that said Navy across the chest and had the Navy emblem below it. Danny had given me Grace's bathing suit to put in my bag for when we went surfing, so I got it, too. I got some tanning lotion for me and sunscreen for Grace. I packed the big stack of cash I'd withdrawn from the bank for my car along with a little extra to rent surfboards and get shave ice for us both. A few minutes later, Katie arrived to pick me up. We got in the car and rode to the dealership. Once there, I payed for my car and left to go get Grace. It was about 2:00. Suddenly, my phone rang. It was Danny. I answered it.
Me: Hello?
Danny: Hey I'll just do warn you, if you're not doing anything, you may want to pick Grace up a little early. Traffic for the pickup line is horrible.
Me: Thanks for the tip.
Danny: I'll call the office and let them know you'll be picking her up. They'll probably ask to see your ID so they know that you're really the person that's supposed to pick her up.
Me: Alright got it. I'm about 1 mile away. So I'll be there soon.
Danny: Alright I'll see you later.
Me: Ok bye.
Danny: Bye.
We hung up and a few minutes later, I got to Grace's school. I went into the office and told them I was there to pick her up. I showed my ID and then they called her over the intercom. After a minute, a brunette girl who looked to be about 13 walked in with a backpack.
Me: Hi Grace!
Grace: Who are you?
Me: I'm Jesse. Steve's sister.
Grace: Uncle Steve only has one sister and her names Mary.
Me: Well, I promise, I'm his sister too. I don't blame you for being cautious, but Danno wanted me to pick you up so we could hang out and get to know each other while he's at work.
Grace: It's not that I don't trust you it's just there was this one time that this guy who pretended to be a cop kidnapped me so I'm calling Danno to make sure.
Me: Ok that's fine.
Grace called Danny and made sure I was supposed to pick her up.
Grace: Ok Danny said you're telling the truth so we can go now. Sorry about that.
Me: That's fine. I can understand why since that happened with that man.
We walked out to my car and got in.
Me: Your dad gave me your bathing suit so we can go surfing and maybe before we surf we can get some shave ice.
Grace: That sounds like a good idea to me!
We started to drive and I put the top on the car down. Our hair blew behind us in the wind.
Me: Wanna listen to some music?
Grace: Sure!
Me: Alright you can pick.
Grace picked a song off the MP3 player that was installed into the car. She picked the song "679." We both started singing along and laughing and having a fun time.
