The next morning, I woke up to see that Danny wasn't there. I looked over at my bedside table and saw a note. "Dear Jesse, I had to go in to work today. I gave Danny the day off so you guys could work things out. I'll see you when I get home later. ~Steve." I walked downstairs to look for Danny and finally I found him when I looked out the window. He was sitting in his car. He couldn't see me, but I could see him. He sat there, with tears running down his face, holding his pistol. My heart literally stopped when I realized what was going on. He was going to kill himself! I thought quickly. The window was only about a foot from his car. While he wasn't looking, I quietly opened the window. By then, tears were rolling down my face as I thought of Grace and Charlie and the twins. They would be fatherless. Without hesitation, I jumped from the window into his windshield feet first. I broke the glass and landed in the passenger seat just in time to grab the gun from his hands. I felt glass sticking through my skin as the adrenaline rush ended. I was bleeding from numerous cuts, but I didn't care. I suddenly realized that the gun had discharged and hit Danny in the shoulder. I ignored all my cuts and picked Danny up from his seat. He was heavy, but not as heavy as what we had to carry in SEAL training. I sprinted in the door of Steve's house and put Danny down in the floor. I went upstairs to the bathroom and found some tweezers, scissors, bandages, and rubbing alcohol. I brought it all downstairs to where Danny was laying. He was unmoving and had lost a lot of blood. I checked his pulse, he was still alive, just unconscious. I used the scissors to cut a hole in his shirt to reach the bullet. I washed the wound out with rubbing alcohol and sterilized the tweezers. I plunged them into the wound and removed the bullet. Then, I used the bandages to wrap up his arm. After that I called Max, the ME. I told him what had happened and that I needed help to make sure Danny was ok  he told me he would be over in 10 minutes. Finally, Max arrived. We stabilized Danny and put him into the bed in the guest bedroom. I was so thankful he was going to be ok.

Max: It appears you have some injuries of your own, Jesse. May I treat them?

Me: Yeah. That's be nice. Thanks Max.

Max cleared the glass out of my wounds. I thanked him and he left. I went straight to the guest room and sat down in a chair beside the bed. I waited for Danny to regain consciousness. Finally after about an hour, he came to. When he first saw me, he tried to reach out for my hand using the arm where he was shot. He cried out in pain.

Danny: I'm so sorry. I don't know what was going on in my head.

Me: Danny. Promise me you'll never try to do this again. Ever. No matter what happens.

Tears began falling from my eyes.

Danny: I won't.

Me: Why didn't you just talk to me?

Danny: I don't know.

Me: Why did you even attempt this?

Danny bit his lip and sighed.

Me: Please. This already hurts enough. Just tell me.

Danny: There was a letter that got here this morning addressed to you. It was from the Navy. And it said that 12 weeks after the twins are born, you're being deployed for 6 months on a SEAL op. And I thought that if you were gone, there was a chance you wouldn't come back. Especially after all I've put you through. I didn't want that.

Me: Danny I would never leave you for good. After this op, I'll put in my resignation papers. But for now, let's just focus on getting your arm better.

Danny: I love you.

Me: I love you too.
