I woke up early and found my training clothes waiting for me. For the next three days I'm going to be in a training center, learning skills to help me in the games. This time is crucial to me if I want to go home alive. I got dressed and went to the dining room for breakfast. Everyone was there. I guess I woke up late. While I was eating Mags explained to me how to make a top notch fish hook, since I only knew how to make crappy small ones that definitely wouldn't be good for the games, again depending on what type of arena. After Mags finished, Finnick talked to both of us about skills.
F: Ok so Alistair, you said you were good with nets right?
Al: Ya.
F: My suggestion would be setting traps for other tributes or even animals if you're running low on food.
Al: Ok.
F: Now Annie.
A: Ya?
F: What are your skills?
A: Um I cut a lot of fish and I also tie fish up.
F: Ok...oh I got it! Knives and rope. Any experience with throwing knives?
A: Well that's the best way I catch fish since I suck at making fish hooks.
F: Ok so my suggestion is go to the knives section. Work on your aim, heart, brain, and stomach. And you can also set traps with the rope.
A: I...I don't know if I can kill anyone...in those games. I mean self defense and all but I don't know about kill.
F: You don't have to, but incase you ever need to know fighting skills and you definitely will, you need to practice and be prepared.
A: Ok...ready Al?
Al: Yep. Let's go.
F: Good luck.
Training
We walked into training and saw some crazy shit going down. People were throwing pointy objects into dummies and fighting each other. I saw a few that weren't as crazy. They were just practicing making fire and edible plants and stuff like that. I walked over to the throwing knives section like Finnick said and grabbed a belt of knives. I suddenly felt a bunch of eyes on me. I turned around and saw a few careers looking at me. I saw Alistair over at the rope tying station, unnoticed. I felt a huge weight on my back now. I kept saying to myself, don't mess this up, you are being watched. I grabbed a knife and threw it. It landed on the left side of the dummies stomach. I heard a few laughs from the careers. Now I was angry, it's not right to laugh at someone who's trying their best. I picked up a knife and threw as sharply as I could. It landed right where I wanted it to, the heart. Bullseye! I smiled and looked behind me back at the careers. They were lifting their eyebrows and whispering not bad. Good, I impressed them. After a few more perfect throws, I went over to the rope section with Alistair.
Al: Hey! Nice job over there!
A: Thanks Al, how're you doing over here?
Al: Pretty good. I learned how to make a noose.
A: Oh...that's...good.
Al: Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. I know you hate the whole killing innocent children idea and I doubt I'll use this at all, but why not try it out right?
A: Ya I guess you're right. Why don't you go work on your axe skills.
Al: What axe skills? *laughs*
A: Well no ones over there. Couldn't hurt to try right?
Al: Ya I guess you're right. I'll go check it out.
He walked to the axe station and all the careers eyes flew on him. Shit. That's not good. I decided to distract them by going over to the knives again and making loud noises while I threw. They all turned to me now. I looked over at Alistair and saw he was doing pretty good. I left the station and went back to rope tying. All the careers went back to looking at Alistair. Damn. He was killing it. The careers were impressed. I think I can call this a successful training day.
