Finnick's POV
We had been dealing with pods all day. Everything from explosives, fire, and black gooey stuff. We had been trying to get to the Capitol mansion for a few days now. We were in a Capitol apartment after being "bombed to death" by the peacekeepers. We've lost some people, Boggs, and the Leegs. We watched as Caesar announced our deaths. Once my name and picture popped up, I chuckled to myself, it's just funny. We stayed there for the night, but I couldn't fall asleep. I was thinking about Annie, how bad she must be without me there. I'm just glad Johanna is there to help her and that she's not alone. I pulled out my rope that I had played with whenever I was feeling nervous or scared. I saw Katniss sit down next to me.
K: You ok?
F: Ya, why?
K: You haven't slept for the past few days.
F: I'm fine, Katniss.
K: You're gonna get back to her, I promise you.
F: *smiles*
K: Just try to get some sleep, ok?
F: Ok.
I leaned back and let my heavy eyelids fall. I woke up about an hour later from Katniss telling me that we had to go. We got out of the apartment and went to a train station. There were too many peacekeeper there, so we had to go into the sewers. We decided to spend the night there. I woke up to Peeta screaming about something, I thought he was having another Capitol mutt breakdown, but this time it wasn't.
P: Run! They released mutts!
I saw big, lizard looking creatures pop out of the darkness. They had teeth and nails as sharp as razors. As we ran, we got deeper into the sewers until we found a ladder to climb to safety. I was fighting mutts left and right, swinging my trident into any that dared to come near me. I saw Katniss fighting some mutts and I decided to save her. Me protecting her started out as a mission, but it turned into a friendship after the quarter quell, I had to help her. I flew my trident into a mutt that was about to attack her and urged her to get to the ladder. I fought off a few more as I made my way closer and closer to the ladder. Once I had cleared some of the mutts and given myself a few seconds to get on the ladder, I started to climb. Katniss reached her hand out to me and as I was about to grab it, a mutt grabbed my leg and started to pull me down. I screamed for Katniss and she stood there shocked.
Katniss's POV
F: KATNISS!!!!!!!!!
K: FINNICK!!!!!!!!!
I started to panic, he was being pulled down by those mutts, there's no way he could survive if he was pulled down.
Gale's POV
I heard Katniss screaming about something and I ran over to her.
G: What's wrong?!
K: Finnick!!!!!!!!!!!
F: Katniss, help!!!!!!!
I started to think about everything Finnick had to go home to, Annie, Johanna, he had to be there for them, annie especially. What did I have to go home to? My family is dead and Katniss obviously is going to choose Peeta over me. I started to go down the ladder. I felt Katniss' hand grab mine.
K: What the hell are you doing?!?!
G: I have to save him.
I grabbed Finnick, who's clothes were being ripped to shreds from those lizard mutts, and pulled him up the ladder. I kicked the lizard mutts in the face and this gave Finnick time to climb the ladder. I looked up for a second, I saw Katniss' eyes teary and wide open. I saw Finnick looking at me sadly, he knew that I wasn't going to make it. I looked down at the mutt that was about to tear my leg apart, it pulled me down and the pain was unbearable. I screamed as I could feel the mutts ripping my boy apart, devouring me slowly. This was it, my time on earth was done, goodbye Katniss.
