Chapter 2

Luke's POV:

"Wow ,your eyes are beautiful." Briana said to Violet. We sat in the library after school and Violet smiled.

"Thank you. It's called heterochromia. There's actually a few people in my tribe with it." She said.

"Tribe?" Briana asked. Violet lifted her sleeve to reveal a shoulder full of flowers and tribal ladders.

"I'm Mohawk. The piercing green eyes and pale ice coloured eyes are common." She explained. Holy fuck did her tattoos make her look ten times hotter.

"Sick tats. How come you don't show them off?" Briana asked.

"I don't know. I just never thought of it." She shrugged.

"You know you and Luke would have kids with nice coloured eyes." Briana blurted.

"Bri." I hissed through gritted teeth while Violet shifted uncomfortably and laughed.

"Wow...that's uh...okay." Violet said looking away.

Briana had no filter whatsoever, she said what she wanted when she wanted without even thinking about it.

"Shit, well I am going to go grab a book from...over there." She said standing up and leaving. Which left Violet and I alone. I tapped my pencil against the blank paper and I saw her eyes flicker up.

"Do you not write anything?" She asked bluntly.

"Man do girls have filters? I think it's the other way around, men have better filters." I scoffed.

Violet's POV:

Lucas Rivers aggravated me. He was the no good son of Mafia bosses and that is all he would ever amount too. My brother Zachary told me to stay away from him. His parents were corrupt and they corrupted not only the medical system but the police system as well.

After he scoffed at me I narrowed my eyes.

"I'm being serious Lucas. What are you even getting in Kostka's class? Are you even passing?" I asked rudely and he threw his head back and chuckled.

"Listen here, Emerald-" He began.

"It's Violet you dumbass." I growled.

"Like I care?" He asked shrugging.

"I could care less about this project and I don't need some girl telling me what to do. Alright?" He snapped

"Well it seems like I have to considering we have been sitting here for an hour and your page is blank."

"Maybe I just don't want to write anything, okay?" He snapped again.

"You're so stupid." I sighed.

"Yea well you're ugly..." He said scratching his head.

"Kind of." He admitted and I rolled my eyes.

"Good job Rivers." I said placing a hand on my hip.

"Luke let's go."

"We have been waiting forever." Voices said. I looked back to see two boys and a girl.

"Groupies?" I asked and he narrowed his eyes sharply.

"My brothers and baby sister." And my mood softened. What a dick move. I looked down and he sighed.

"Bri, your board is in my jeep." He said grabbing his stuff.

"Can we get McDonald's? Dad and mom are working late?" His sister asked.

"Of course." Luke mumbled shoving his things in his bag.

"We will work on this again sometime, yea? Maybe when you're not going to be so bitchy towards me." He said walking out of the library.

"Wow, he's pissed." Briana whispered watching him walk out. I sighed grabbing my stuff and making my way to the bus stop to get home.

"Zach? Mom? I'm home." I called.

"Where have you been?" Zach asked curiously.

"I was doing group work. How is mom?" I asked taking off my jacket. My mother was diagnosed with lung cancer after my father died of a heart attack. Zachary was a doctor and he helped mom with her medications and treatments.

"She's good. Napping on the couch." He gestured over to the couch. My mom slept with a blanket around her. She wasn't dying but she still needed treatments to stabilize the growth. I clicked on the fireplace and walked into the kitchen where Zach was starting dinner.

"What kind of group work?" He asked curiously.

"English." I sighed.

"English is your favourite, why do you seem so down?" He asked curiously.

"Lucas Rivers is in my group." I said and he froze.

"Don't worry he is an asshole I can't stand him. He doesn't do any work he just sits there and makes fun of me." I said.

"Stupid boys. He isn't mature yet and he won't try in school because he already has a job set." He said harshly. Man did I sound like that when Luke and I were fighting.

"Y-yea. Exactly." I said quietly.

"Good. You have to focus on Yale." He said patting my shoulders.
