Chapter 9
Violet's POV:
My mom had a breathing tube in her nose as she was having a hard month. Zach was writing down a few things on her folder as I laid my head on her bed. She has been sleeping and she had a hat on her head.
"Dr. McKinnon?" Someone asked knocking on the door. I looked up to see a woman holding a bouquet of flowers. She set them on the table and Zach walked over looking at the tag.
"You have to be fucking kidding me." He muttered storming out. I frowned standing up to look at the flowers to see that they were from Ace Rivers.
"Lucas..." I whispered. He must have told his father what I had said.
"I swear to God if I get the Mafia after me I am going to kill that boy." I swore walking out of the door.
"Did you see where Zach went?" I asked numerous people who kept pointing down the hallway. I walked out the back to see a room with locked cabinets and my brother holding another doctor up by the collar.
"Zach!" I yelled running over and clawing at his shoulders.
"Why are you helping them!? They are the Mafia! What kind of doctor are you!?" He yelled. I finally got Zach to let go of him and I frowned at him angrily.
"What kind of Doctor are you!? Fighting your staff!" I yelled.
"This guy is helping out the Rivers Mafia."
"Yes because in the end they are people too whether you like it or not, Zach." He turned to me surprised.
"What?" He asked.
"You heard me. They are people too and they help the poor." I said placing my hands on my hips.
"Chase leave I will speak to you later." Zach said not removing his eyes from me. The doctor left and Zach sighed.
"You're hanging around his son aren't you?" He asked.
"Far from it. He is an egotistical asshole, I'm just saying though, he has told me what his parents have done and I approve of what they have done."
"So you approve of the way they bombarded dad and forced him to have a stress enduced heart attack?" He asked sarcastically.
"Of course not, I can't believe you would say that. But I do respect them for helping the poor."
"But they have also killed numerous people and kidnapped many people. They have done so many bad things that the good things cannot even it out."
"Zach, you have always wanted to work in Canada where everyone receives free health care so that you can help the poor. Lucas's family is making sure the lesser families have money to go to doctors. So sorry that I do find that admirable." I said.
"Violet I can't believe you are sticking up for him. I told you to stay away from him." He said narrowing his eyes and my jaw dropped.
"Zach I know you are the man of the house but you cannot control who I associate myself with. I am not marrying the guy I am just sticking up for what is right. I know what he did is wrong but I will not hold a grudge for the rest of my life because it weighs down on you."
"I'm not controlling you, I am looking out for your own safety. I don't want to see you hurt and I want to see you turn into a successful woman."
"I know that and I appreciate all you have done for me and all you will be doing for me. But please just think about this for two minutes."
"We will discuss this later. I have to check on mom," He said leaving the room. I huffed sadly before walking back to moms' room. She finally had her eyes open but she was getting sick in the trash can,
"Hey mom." I smiled after she was finished.
"Hi sweetie, how are you?" She asked resting her hand on top of mine.
"I'm good, how are you feeling?"
"I'm better with both of you here." She said smiling at Zach. I lifted my shirt and pulled off the gauze.
"I got something for you." I said showing her the pink and red rose with her name under it.
"Oh Violet, it's beautiful." She whispered.
"Rose McKinnon." I smiled. My mothers' name is Rose and she loved the flower so it made sense to get it.
"I love it darling. Thank you." She said holding out her arms. I hugged her carefully as she kissed my head.
"You're welcome, I love you." I whispered.
"As do I, flower." She whispered smoothing down my hair. I sat back down wiping under my eye and she frowned.
"Why are you crying, Violet?" She asked.
"I'm fine. I just miss you and dad calling me flower." I said forcing a smile.
"I will call you it all the time if it makes you happy," She assured.
"Thanks mom." I whispered.
