Chapter 20

Alcide got some of his pack members to help clean up all the blood and dead rogues whilst he went and checked on his border patrols to see how they were doing. I knew they'd heal in no time. Alpha, his son (Jonny), Brad, William, Ryan and I were all in his office waiting for him to return. I was stood behind his desk looking over the map of the territory and surrounding area. I marked where the attack just happened and where I killed that other rogue. Now, usually the pack links only works so far, except for me of course. Usually it's about a mile or so outside the territory. I got a ruler and marked exactly where a mile was from where the rogue used the pack link. Because the main attack happened just in Alcide's territory they must be at least a mile away.

We know rogues don't like population so they won't be near a town. About three miles past the one-mile mark I made was Alcide's neighbouring pack. We need to talk to them, see if they know anything that might help us. Between their territory and Alcide's was basically just fields and forests. The rogues would be in there somewhere. There was no clear indication anywhere on the map that they could clearly be.

"William, come here a sec'." He stood up and stood opposite the table looking at the map.

"Yes Milly?"

"In this area," I circled the four miles between Alcide's and the neighbouring pack, "Is there anywhere that people can live in? Any shelter? Any abandoned houses? Warehouses? Barns? Anything at all?" He looked at the map and concentrated. He picked up the pen and started to cross off places on the map.

"There's an old barn about here, I'm not sure if it abandoned or not. There's a house here, it's almost as big as this pack house, but more... human made. Again, I'm not sure if anyone's living here. I don't think there's any warehouse, at least none that I know of. There's another barn somewhere. I think it's about here, I'm not sure. I know this one is empty. Its massive as well, it's been empty for as long as I can remember its where me and Kate use to go to be alone before we had Alcide I've kind of blocked it out my memory since losing Kate." I nodded my head. They were all roughly about half way between our pack and the next.

"Thanks. Right, Will you're going to call the pack here and see if they know anything about these rogue attacks. If they do, find out how much they know. And if they're willing to help. Me and Brad are going to these places, see if the rogues are here. They know that the blue wolf is in this pack and there's four Alphas living under one roof. We are going to be their main target now."

"Alcide's going to want to go with you." Gray said.

"Tough shit. I know he can fight but I don't know how good, unlike Brad I know he can stop himself getting killed. We're just going to see where they are, we aren't going to fight unless we get caught. Will, when you hear from the pack, mind link me what they tell you. We need to know what they know. These rogues are half way between your pack and there's."

"How are you so sure Moo?" Brad asked.

"That wolf that got away, just before I caught him, he mind linked them to tell them I was here. He said the blue wolf is in this territory and it's a girl. They must be close enough to use the pack link. We have to protect every female in this pack now. Now they know it's a girl, that's who they'll be going after."

"Rogues have a pack link?" Gray asked.

"They must have an Alpha. A rogue Alpha or the link won't work. That Boone guy maybe. When Alcide gets back have him look at all the packs records. Find out if any Alphas or Betas have gone rogue in the last thirty years. Or anybody that wanted to be Alpha but obviously had a fucking attitude problem."

I looked down at the map again memorizing where Will marked off the three places and how to get there. The closest one was the barn that Will use to go to with Kate. We'll check there first. "Right Brad. We're going now. Night time will give us cover if they have patrols like we do. We aren't going to attack or make ourselves known, we just need to know how close they can get to the pack without us knowing. Also, if we can get close enough, hear anything that they're talking about, whether it be the next attack or what." He nodded his head in agreement and went to go get changed. He only had a pair of trackies on from when he shifted earlier.
