A doctor came in the hospital room with the wriggling baby in his arms. The mother gave a sigh of relief. She had been there in that very room for a week; complaining of some sort of sickness before her pregnancy.

The doctor smiled. "Your baby is just fine, but we have noticed something peculiar..." The woman sighed. "What is it?"

"She has some bumps on her back. See?" He held the tiny child out to her to examine. The woman ran her fingers along the bumps. "Hmmm..." For a moment, everything was silent.

"We suspect it is just pointy back bones," the doctor said, his smile returning. "Right." The woman felt a rush of relief spread throughout her body.

"You can take her home in three days," the doctor announced.

"Thank you," the woman replied cheerfully.

Three days later, the woman held her baby while her husband came to pick her up. She had decided to name her. "Hmmm... How about Isabelle?" The baby didn't bother to acknowledge her as she said the name.

"I guess not. How about..." Just then her husband came in.

"Hi! How are you feeling?" Her husband asked as he sat down in the chair beside her.

"Just trying to think of a name for her. What do you think is good?" The man stroked the baby's head. "Hmmm... Maybe... Jay?"

"That's good. I think that's it," she said as the baby looked at the man. "She likes it, that's for sure," her husband replied.

"Jay," they said together.

The woman was washing the baby gently. She turned her around so her back faced the wall. She was washing the baby's back when she saw it.

"Is that... feathers?"

Indeed they were feathers. They were a lime green color mixed with a little red, and they were in the most convenient space.

The bumps.

The chapters will probably be short, like this one, but to make up for it, I will make lots of chapters. (;
