Twenty-seven

Charlotte's POV

I decided to go back to the human realm to see what was going on. I was skeptical about where I was going to land, but it had never been a problem before, so my worries ebbed.

I opened the dark, swirling portal. There was a tiny hole in it, so I looked through it. The landscape was a desert with a temple in it.

When I got to the surface, I landed in the desert I saw. I headed toward the temple, which I recognized as the Earth temple.

The doors were open slightly, with a slight purple glow coming from inside. I walked in, seeing all the spirits dancing.

"Charlotte? Is that you?" A voice called from the crowd. Lily pushed her way to me. "Where is Jay? Isn't she supposed to be with you?" I asked.

She hesitated for a moment. "You don't know where she is, do you?" She shook her head. "What's that?" I asked pointing at a notebook laying on the ground. It was glowing.

"That's Jay's sketchbook," Lily said. "But why is it... glowing?" She walked toward it slowly.

"I know what happened," she said after a moment of inspection. When Jay draws a picture of a place, she can go and look at it's past.

"It looks like she went to one of the four temples. Because they all look the same," she said, picking up the book. "Well, what do you know? We learn new things every day. I didn't know that could happen," I said, rocking back and forth on my heels.

She shot me an annoyed look. I shrugged. "Anyways, we just have to wait for her to come back. It probably won't take too long," she said.

We walked out of the temple with the book, and we walked into the woods.

"So... what's been happening with you?" I asked. "Mmm, not much, just gathering spirits. I already have one to take with us."

"I... think I'll... stay here."
