Lily's POV
I opened my eyes to see Jay lying on the ground, holding a book to her chest. She was staring off into space.
I sat up, almost banging my head on the tree branch that hung just above my head. I slid off the branch, landing on my feet softly. Jay looked over at me, but stayed silent.
"So,do you want to tell me how you got here?" I asked. "Yeah, I think I'm ready," she said.
I sat on the ground next to her, when she started to burst into speech.
"Well, I kinda just... left. I felt like nothing good was going to happen if I stayed. I felt like I didn't belong there. So I gathered my things and left," she said with a sigh. "And that's when Marshal came along. I never wanted him there because I didn't want to see him get hurt. But look where that got us."
"Did you ever wonder why he came?"
"Yes. I wondered why he wanted to come if there was so much danger out here. I didn't understand," she said, her voice trembling slightly.
I stood and walked into the woods a little ways. I reached the bright yellow Yoshi and untied him. I petted his head. We walked back to the meadow, where Jay had sat up in curiosity.
"What is that?" She asked. "His name is Darwin. He's a Yoshi."
"Uh... okay? Back to what I was saying," she said, frowning a little. "I didn't really understand why Dad was so mad at me for having this." She held up the book that was on her stomach. "Then I figured it out. Through a dream. I found this girl that showed me stuff about... her. She said her name was Melody."
"Melody? I'm sure I've heard that name before. What did she look like?"
Well, she had this long, silver hair. And she would always call me child, even though she knew my name," Jay said, rolling her eyes.
That Melody. She was going to ruin everything! I couldn't stand how she would always trick people. She must have been tricking her.
I wouldn't allow it.
