Special thanks to Lemenpie for the great ideas and support!
Max was a normal schoolkid, knowing almost everyone. He didn't know Jay very well, but she was a good friend all in all.
"What is it?" Jay asked with a touch of exasperation in her tone.
"I saw Lily and Charlotte and all these other kids standing around this other kid. He was being weird," he replied, tugging on her sleeve. "Let's go!"
The kids were on a cliff edge, where anyone could fall off and either get seriously injured, or die. Kids were gathered around the the edge.
"Hey! What's the big idea?" Jay shouted across the small meadow between the cliff and her.
"This kid looks like he's hurting. We want to help him," Lily said. The kids made way to reveal a boy with two huge scars, one above his left eye from the top his forehead to the edge of his eyesocket, the other in a similar way, exept under his right eye.
A short boy near Max whispered to Lily, "Yo, don't tell my parents I'm here."
Everyone was staring away from the boy, who got up and staggered over to Jay. "Are you okay?" She asked. He just collapsed in her arms.
"Gee, you must be tired. Let's get you to my dad's."
Jay half carried, half dragged, the boy to her dad's house. Max opened the door for her, and she walked into the house. Her dad was sitting on the sofa. "Hey, Jay, how's-" he stopped dead when he saw the boy.
He grabbed him and dragged him to the sofa and laid him down. He opened his eyes a bit. "Hey, you okay, kiddo?" Jay's dad asked. "Y-yea, I'm okay..."
"What's your name?" Jay asked.
"It's Marshal."
