Jay sat on her turtle-print bed and stared out the window. She reached back to rub her fingers on the soft feathers coming out from her back. She sighed.
"Why can't they just tell me what's going on?" She thought, getting up and nestling into the block of space in between her window and the rest of her bed.
"Nothing makes sense anymore. Is it worth it?"
She grabbed a random book off the shelf. It was Warriors, Dawn. "Yes," she thought, opening to the spot where her bookmark was rested.
Jay read for about an hour before she decided to go and talk to her dad. "I think I deserve to know the truth. I can't live with this anymore."
"Dad," She called down to him.
Silence. "Dad?" She went down to the living room. It was dark. She could see a blue light coming from the kitchen.
"Hey, Dad, what's going on in there?" Jay walked in to see her dad engulfed in blue flames. Tears were streaming down his face.
"Dad, it's okay! You'll be fine! Dad?" He stood. "Jay, get out of here, she's coming!" Tears were still coming from his eyes.
"Who's 'She'? Dad tell me what's going on, or I'm not leaving!" Her dad frowned, bringing his hand down to his side.
"I can't explain now, you have to go," he replied, still fighting back the tears.
"Dad. Now. Please." Jay's tone was becoming angrier every time she had to tell her dad to tell her what was going on.
That's when he finally broke down.
