Jay felt nervous as her dad cast a suspicious look around the room. His eyes rested on the book about wings. His eyes widened at the sight of it.

"Why do you have this?" He asked as he picked it up from the floor.

"I... I wanted to know the truth. I wanted to tell you, but so many things have happened, and..." She let her voice trail off. Her father opened the book to the place where Jay had put the bookmark.

"Oh... oh my god," he said, his hand covering his mouth. "N-no... why..."

"Dad, what's so bad about it?" She asked, half-rolling her eyes. "I'll take this," he said, shaking his head.

"Dad seriously? It's not that bad," she said.

"Not that bad?" He growled. "Why do you think I've kept these secrets from you? Why do you think I've woken up every day feeling like shit?"

Jay was fairly astonished. She'd never seen him act like this before. Her dad left the room, going out of his way to make sure every paper in her room made a movement.

She sighed and flopped on her bed. She wondered what had been on that page that she wasn't allowed to see. She got up and peeked out the door. Her dad was nowhere to be seen.

She quietly walked down the stairs and out of the house. Once she closed the front door, she sprinted down the pavement. People stared at her as she ran by, but she didn't care.

She skidded to a halt outside of Charlotte and Lily's house. Panting, she looked out past the street. There were pink cherry and apple blossom trees that formed the forest.

"It's all too beautiful," she thought. "Maybe I could leave this place. Go on adventures, make new friends. Everything good seems to happen when you leave.
