Chapter 2

Kristina's POV

Okay. I'm pacing in my room wondering what Mr. Smith said about my coming to Orlando with them and Mom becoming my legal guardian. I hope he's not mad or upset that I just asked her. I mean, I never really see him or talk to him. But that's not his fault since he works from 7:30-5:30, which is almost all day. I feel more comfortable with just Mom becoming my legal guardian. Plus, I think that he doesn't really like me as much as the rest of the family does...

Well, I'll just have to wait and see.

Maria said she'll call me when I can come so-

Well I guess that would be now, I thought as I walked to my ringing cell phone.

"Hey!" I said.

"Hey! So Dad is fine with it! And you can come over now!"

"Yay! Okay! See you in five!"

"Okay! See ya!"

Okay. So Mr. Smith is okay with it. That's good. And I get to spend the night with my best friend and her amazing family!

Well, better get on my way!


MARIA'S POV

Mom just woke me up to call Kristina to tell her she can come now. So yeah I'm still tired but I can't go to sleep because she's coming in five minutes...


KRISTINA'S POV

"Hey guys!" I yelled as I walked through the garage door.

"Hi honey!" Mom said and gave me a hug.

"Hi!"

"Okay. Mr. Smith is watching tv in the family room, Vinny is playing video games, and Maria is in her room."

"Okay. Thanks!"

"No problem!"

As I walked up the stairs to get to Maria's room, it seemed more quiet than usual.

I peeked my head in her door and saw her on her bed sleeping, with her long, curly, and now frizzy, hair spread out around her head.

"Yo sleeping beauty. Wake up." I said.

"What?" She asked sleepily as she sat up.

"You were asleep when I walked in."

"Oh. Sorry. I guess with all the events today, especially falling down the stairs twice, I got tired. Well, I feel better now!" She said jumping and running around the room.

"Wow. 20 minutes of sleep does more than you think."

"Yes it does!"

I snorted and Maria just giggled.

"I have some big news!"

"What?" She asked while almost knocking me off her bed.

"Geez relax."

She laughed.

"So, tell me!"

"Okay okay. Well, I GOT MY DRIVERS LICENSE!" I screamed.

"WHAT?! OH MY GOD! CONGRATULATIONS!"

"Thanks!"

"No problem! But I thought you had to be 16 to get your drivers license."

"Yeah well considering the situation at my house, everyone thinks it's best if I learn a year early. They actually thought I was really good!"

"Wow! That's great!"

"Yeah! Hey, wanna ask your mom to see if I can bring you and Vinny to Dairy Queen?" I asked.

"Yeah! I'll ask Mom and you ask Vinny."

"Okay."

Then I walked to the bonus room.

"Hey Vinny! I got my drivers license. So, do you wanna go to Dairy Queen with me and Maria?"

"Sure. Just wait five minutes then I'll be down. Congrats by the way." Vinny said.

"Okay. And thanks!" I said running out the door.

By the time I left Maria was just walking down the stairs. God, she's so slow sometimes. I decided to go to the bathroom to speed up time.

MARIA'S POV

I was quietly walking down the stairs and heard my parents talking. They heard me coming before I could hear anything though. Mom had a fake smile on her face and Dad wasn't making eye contact with anyone.

"Hey honey! What's up?" Mom asked.

"Well, Kristina got her drivers license and she wanted to know if she can take me and Vinny to Dairy Queen."

"Why does she have her drivers license at 15?" Dad asked.

"Because of her situation at home." I quickly and briefly replied.

"I want to see it." Dad said.

He was acting strange...

"Um.. okay. I'll go and get her."

Something's up. I'll just have to ask Mom tomorrow since I won't have time today and Dad is here. He's working tomorrow.

"Kristina!" I yelled.

"Yeah?"

"Come here!"

"Okay! One sec!"

Then I heard her coming down the stairs.

"Dad wants to see your drivers license." I quickly said.

She gave me a confused look but I just shrugged.

"Okay. Here." She said handing him her drivers license.

After a few minutes of awkward silence Dad finally said, "Okay. You guys can go."

Then Vinny came down the stairs. I'm pretty sure that he heard everything. Well, we'll talk about it in the car.

"Hey guys what was that all about?" Kristina asked.

Vinny and I looked at each other and shrugged.

"I have no clue. Mom and Dad were both acting weird. I heard them talking when I was going downstairs which is why I went slowly. I wanted to hear. But, they heard me before I heard anything." I said.

"Well they're alone now so how about we get some ice cream and spy on them?" Kristina asked.

"What if they see us?" Vinny asked.

"We'll just say that we were um... that we just came from a walk and were about to go in the house. And we were all crouching because we spilt ice cream on the dirt and were trying not to get caught cleaning it up." Kristina said.

"Okay. I'm in." I said.

"Me too." Said Vinny.

"Okay. NOW LET'S GET THIS PARTY STARTED!" Kristina screamed.

Vinny just groaned while I laughed.

This is gonna be a long night.
