MARIA'S POV
I turned to look at my beeping clock as I slowly awakened. 6:30AM. Oh right, I have school today. I groan and get out of bed. I stumble down the stairs, out the door, and to the mailbox, like I always do.
But I sense someone staring at me. I turn towards the McDonough house and see the three boys peeking at me through the window. I wave. Toby runs away but Connor and Riley wave back. I laugh. Typical. Shy Toby and crazy Connor and Riley. I wonder why they were staring at me. I look down at what I'm wearing, a tank top and short shorts.... Oh... oops. Freaking boys.
I shake my head and proceed to open the mailbox. I find three cards, one addressed to one girl in my house. Along with that is a few bills and taxes and magazines. Oh, and you might be wondering where my mom is. Well, she's living in that apartment with Vinny and my step-dad. She sends weekly paychecks over to us. And why she doesn't visit or ever want to see me? Well, my mom doesn't particularly favor me, but she still cares enough to send enough money for me to survive.
My brow creases in confusion as I stare at my letter. I open it up. It's typed on a piece of snow white paper. It reads:
You are beautiful on the inside and outside,
and forever will be.
You astonish everyone with your kindness and generosity,
and forever will be.
You are an essential piece of my heart,
special, amazing, and nothing in between. <3

Oh my god, I wonder who's writing this for me. I searched the whole paper for a name, but it was not signed at all.
I sped walked back inside the house.
"KRIS! JENNA! GET DOWN HERE!" I screamed.
"What is it?" they groggily asked while ambling down the stairs.
"Read this. Now."
I handed them their letters and they read it. By the end of their reading, they were smiling.
"Did yours sign a name?" I asked.
"No." they both answered.
"Same. Who could be doing this?" I questioned.
They shrugged and walked back upstairs to get ready, smiling.
I ended up following them.
I walked into my room and locked the door behind me. I went into my closet and grabbed jeans, a belt, and white tank, an Aztec patterned cardigan, a necklace, a pair of socks and black shoes, and a bra and underwear. I slipped all my clothes on then sat at my makeup desk. I put on foundation, mascara, and blush. I put on my deodorant and perfume, along with chapstick and the necklace. I left my hair down so I put some product in it. I got two pearls and two diamond earrings and put them in. (I have my second hole). Then I grabbed two ear cuffs and put them both on one ear. I placed my watch on my left wrist then walked downstairs.
Jenna and Kris were already there, eating breakfast. Jenna was wearing a black tee and white jeans. Kris was wearing a gray and white pineapple tee and regular-colored jeans. Jenna's hair was in a high ponytail, her loose curls flowing down her head. Kris' hair was in a messy side braid, with some pieces of her hair coming out of the braid.
I grabbed my fiber bar and my backpack and walked out the door, with Jenna and Kris behind me.
We didn't say a thing. We were too busy thinking about our love letters, our secret admirers. Neither of us shared what ours said, and we were okay with that. But as soon as we walked out that front door, we put on our normal faces and decided it would wait until after school to discuss.
