MARIA'S POV
I woke up and looked at the clock. I was 1am. I heard someone singing.
It took me a second or two to realize that it was Toby singing and that I forgot to shut my balcony doors last night.
Then, I also noticed that he was strumming Run by Matt Nathanson and Sugarland on his guitar. This is one of my favorite songs. I hopped out of my bed and ran to my guitar. My part, or Sugarland's part, is coming up. I quickly tuned my guitar then tiptoed on my deck and readied myself. And yes, I know the words and the chords to this song. I love it. I closed my eyes and enjoyed Toby's singing as he sang the last few lines of the first verse.
You come in a wave, we crash and we roll,
you surround me, pull me, drown me, and swallow me whole
You turn, turn, turn, turning me on like a slow fire burn,
I know that it's wrong still I run, run, run, run right into you.
Yeah, I run, run, run, run right into you.
I took a few breaths and began singing my part.
You pull me in close, you buckle my knees,
By the first phrase, Toby realized that someone else was singing. He came outside and saw me. He was shirtless which made me blush. Toby smiled and sat down on a chair with his guitar, still strumming. I smiled back, and looked at my fingers, making sure I'm holding the right strings. Then I continued singing.
I shake and I shiver just to feel you breathe
You trace my lines (toby- you trace my lines)
Stirring my soul,
Shoot sparks at the heart of the world and I watch it explode (toby- I watch you, I watch you)
*(BOTH)*
You turn, turn, turn, turning me on like a slow fire burn,
I know that it's wrong still I run, run, run, run right into you.
Yeah, I run, run, run, run right into you.
Toby and I soon finished the song. He and I smiled at each other as we played and sang the last note together.
"Since when did you learn to sing?" he asked me.
"That is, well was, my secret. I've been taking singing lessons since November. It was one of the things I just continued doing even with my personality change."
"Wow. Well, you're really good."
"Not as good as you. Dude, your voice is so perfect it sounds like an angel."
Toby blushed.
"I'm pretty close though.." I murmured.
"What was that?"
"Nothing. What are you doing up anyway?"
"Can't sleep."
"Come over here."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah. Just leave a note."
Toby quickly scribbled a note saying that he's spending the night with me and slipped on a shirt.
He climbed on the thick branch that practically connected our balconies. Once he was close enough I reached out my hand. He grabbed it and I helped him climb over the railing on my deck.
My arms instantly went around his back, as his hands went around mine.
"Hi, Tobster."
"Hi, Smiley."
