When she was a little girl, and her mother caught her doing something she wasn't supposed to be doing, Aislinn would close her eyes and feverishly wish she could make herself invisible. She couldn't, of course, but that didn't stop her from trying.

Now, as the three men in the doorway leered at her, she found herself feverishly wishing she could make her and Steve invisible. Her entire body burned from the heat in those three stares, even as Steve growled, "Do you jackasses mind?"

"Not at all," Jake replied. "Don't stop on our account."

"Get the fuck out of here."

Aislinn's cheeks burned like mad as Steve shifted just enough to cover her from the prying eyes of three completely moronic men, and he tugged the musty-smelling multicolor afghan from the back of the sofa to cover them as well.

"Damn," a low whistle followed Jake's exclamation, "guess she's not an ice queen on her back, huh, Stevie?"

"That's it." Steve slid from beneath the afghan, keeping it tucked against her as he did. He didn't seem to give a damn about his own nakedness as he faced his roommates. "What the fuck is wrong with you guys?"

"Easy, man," Jake held up his hands, "we're just kidding around."

"He's right, Jake," Rob said. "This is wrong. Let's give them a little privacy to at least go upstairs."

Aislinn bit down on her bottom lip as Ed added, "Enough's enough. This isn't funny, Jake. Come on."

"Fine."

Aislinn relaxed, hearing receding footsteps and the slam of the front door. With a low, relieved sigh. Steve dropped onto the edge of the sofa, his head in his hands. He glanced over at her. "You okay, honey?"

"I'm fine. A little embarrassed, but I'll live." Holding the afghan to her chest, just in case Jake decided to be funny again, she sat up and touched his shoulder. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine, just pissed off. This is why I don't have roommates and why two weeks a summer is all I can stand." He raked his fingers through his hair and sighed again. "Do you want to go upstairs or do you just want to go home?"

She smiled as she leaned her head against his shoulder. "It's our last night together down here." She gazed up at him. "What do you think?"

"I think you're a good sport for not getting all huffy and embarrassed and blaming me for my roommates and their idiotic behavior."

"Your roommates are lucky I didn't zap them someplace a whole lot more uncomfortable than right here."

"You can do that?"

"Steve, I'm the daughter of a god, I can do pretty much anything I want."

He rose, tugging her up and into his arms. "Really? What about us? Can you zap us somewhere else?"

"Where would you like to go?"

"Let me think about it." He tightened his arms about her, his eyes closing briefly as her body pressed flush against his. "Right now, I think I just want to go upstairs and pick up where we left off, minus the interruption."

"I like the sound of that."

The first light of dawn sliced through the part in the drapes, but since he was used to waking with the sun most mornings, Steve didn't care. Back home, he was up at four every morning, had breakfast, hit the gym, and then got on with his day. During vacation, he pretty much kept the same routine, only instead of going to the gym, he went for a run on the beach. From the house to the Seaside Boardwalk was roughly two miles. He ran a six-and-a-half minute mile, just as he had in high school, and had no desire to see any time added to that.
