Aislinn smiled at her reflection as she smoothed down the skirt of her emerald green silk gown. Steve hadn't seen her yet and she couldn't wait to see his reaction when he did. It was Prom Night and she couldn't remember the last time she was so excited about going somewhere, but she really was looking forward to getting out.
Steve's parents were there to watch Chris and Steve was downstairs waiting for her to finish getting dressed. She eased into her four inch black satin sandals, grabbed her small, beaded bag from the foot of their bed, and made her way downstairs.
As she passed by the nursery, she heard Steve say, "What's the matter, little man? You're supposed to be napping and if you give Nonna a hard time, she's not going to want to watch you any more."
She paused in the doorway, smiling as Steve lifted Chris from his crib and smoothed a hand over his dark hair, rocking him gently. The baby whimpered, burying his face in Steve's neck. Steve kissed the top of his head. "What's wrong, Chris? Tell me and I'll fix it for you, okay? Tell Daddy and he'll make it all better for you."
As he spoke, Steve rocked his way to the windows overlooking the back yard, where he stood and swayed with his son. Leaning against the doorjamb, she fought down a sigh at the sight. Steve wore a well-cut suit of dark gray silk gabardine, the jacket emphasizing the breadth of his shoulders and the pants highlighted another of his assets. She was going to be the envy of every woman and girl at the prom, no doubt, when she walked in on the arm of the handsomest man in nine realms.
Chris quieted and Steve murmured, "That's my boy... Christ, Chris, you should only know how much Daddy loves you. Even when you're fussy. Shhh..."
Without thinking, Aislinn crept up behind him and eased her arms about his waist. "What does Nonna mean?"
He smiled at her over his left shoulder. "It's Italian for grandmother."
She nodded. "I like it."
He turned, his eyes darkening as they fell on her. "Damn, Ash, you look incredible."
A pleasant heat swirled through her. "Thank you."
He leaned over to brush her lips with his. "But, there is one thing missing, so let me hand off this little monkey to my mom and we can rectify that at once."
"Missing?" She smoothed a hand over the silky skirt. "What am I missing?" She hiked it up enough to give him a view of the lacy band about the top of her thigh high. "I even remembered the garter belt."
Steve groaned softly and with his free hand, covered Chris's eyes. "Don't look, little man. This is for Daddy's eyes only."
She smiled. "Gotcha."
"And now I have to wait a few minutes to go downstairs."
"Are you kidding me, Steve?"
"Yes. I am." He grinned as he kissed her again. "But now I'm looking forward to what happens after prom tonight. It's like losing my virginity all over again." He glanced at Chris. "And you didn't hear any of that."
Chris smiled then, and Aislinn had to bite back her laugh. "Why do I think he understood every word you just said."
"Great. A Norman Bates in the making and it's my fault."
"Who?"
He rolled his eyes. "I'll explain on the way to the hotel."
"Don't roll your eyes at me, Mr. Molinaro, or you can forget getting anywhere near this garter belt tonight."
