Asgard
McKenna Carlin Odinson, Queen of Asgard, frowned as she gazed up at Asgard's gatekeeper. Heimdall watched over not only Asgard, but all nine realms, and the trillions of souls who inhabited those realms. "Well?"
"She is still with the Midgardian, my queen, and she is happy."
"See, love?" Loki draped his arm about her shoulders and gave her a gentle squeeze. "You were worrying for nothing." He glanced up at Heimdall. "What are they doing, or do I not want to know?"
Heimdall chuckled. "They are shopping, or so it seems. In a mall, I believe you call it?"
"Yes." McKenna sighed softly. It wasn't like Aislinn to remain on Midgard for so long. Usually a week or two with Selig and his brood was all she could take before she fled for the quiet of Asgard.
So when Selig reported back that she'd met a Midgardian man and hit it off with him, McKenna was both happy and terrified. It seemed the Jötunn's greatest weakness was the Midgardian. Loki fell in love with her and married her, Selig fell in love with and married Celia. Was Aislinn going to be the next to succumb?
Part of her hoped so. She wanted nothing more than to see all four of her children fall in love, to marry and find the same happiness she found with her Jötunn. She case a sidelong glance up at Loki. Black-haired, blue-eyed, handsome as sin and every bit as affectionate and playful as he'd been when they'd first fallen in love, he'd set the bar high for his daughters where matters of the heart were concerned. And if Aislinn's Midgardian was even close to the man that her father was, she was a very fortunate young woman.
But at the same time, while Selig and Nicholas settled in Asgard with their wives, she had the feeling that if Aislinn wound up marrying her Midgardian, that's where they would settle. She didn't like to think about that, didn't want to imagine what it would be like to have her daughter so far away.
Loki gave her shoulder a squeeze. "This is what we want for her, isn't it? Even if the thought of some man putting his hands on my little girl is enough to make me--"
"Don't think about it, Loki," she told him, managing to grin as she added, "I warned you, back when she was a baby, that some guy would come along and want to do all those things with her and to her, that you want to do with me and to me."
He groaned softly. "I know, but still..."
"She's not a little girl any more, Loki. She's a woman."
"Don't remind me."
She sighed softly, leaning her head against him. "Loki, if this man is the one for her, promise me you won't go all Daddy on him. That you won't scare him off."
"Love, I promise no such thing. I will be on my best behavior, unless he hurts her. Then, all bets are off, as you would say."
She smiled. "We want her to be happy, Loki. To find love and maybe marry and have children of her own--"
"I don't want to think about how she'd have those children, love," he groaned softly.
"But remember, some day, a guy like you will come along and want to do all those things with her and to her, that you want to do with me and to me," she whispered, giving his waist a squeeze. "And to be honest, I'd rather not think about it, either."
"Good. So, why don't we take a walk down to Sølvfoss," he murmured, his lips brushing her ear, "and I can do all those things to you that make you twist your fingers in my hair and breathe my name into my ear."
