For the next week following her shooting, Aislinn made sure to keep a careful watch over Steve, despite his assertions that he wasn't in any danger. After two days of his fussing over her (which was really annoying, since he obviously knew she didn't need fussing over,) she insisted he go back to work. As soon as he left Friday morning, she'd called Heimdall.

"Everything is all right now?" Heimdall asked when she arrived in his gatehouse.

"I'm fine, Heimdall, thank you. Have you said anything to Mom or Dad or the others?"

"No."

"Good. I don't want them to know what happened. You know Daddy will blast everything in his path to get to Jenna and that can't happen. The last thing he needs is to become wanted again."

Heimdall nodded. "Of course, Your Highness."

"I've got things under control at home. But, I can't be with Steve when he's at work." She paced the gatehouse as she spoke, anxious to be gone before anyone else came in. "You have to watch him for me, Heimdall, please."

"Of course, Princess." Heimdall was his usual, calm self. "You fear for his safety?"

She nodded. "I do. I'm afraid Jenna will decide if she can't have him, no one else will, either. And I will not let that happen."

"Take care, Princess. Play by Midgardian rules."

"I will as long as I have to, but if something happens to Steve, there isn't a force in all the nine realms that will keep me from dispensing proper justice."

"What shall I do, if he is in danger?"

"Let me know and I will take care of it. I still don't want my father to know."

"Yes, Your Highness."

She smiled then. "Thank you."

"If I may?"

"Go ahead."

"You should rethink eloping with the Midgardian. Your parents would be most upset."

"Heimdall, this is my decision and I've made it. You will also keep that to yourself."

Heimdall didn't look happy, but he nodded. "Of course, Princess."

That was ten days ago and although the police found Jenna and arrested her, she'd been released on bail. Aislinn was livid when she heard this, but Steve explained to her it was standard. Jenna had no criminal record and her parents hired a good attorney. Between that and there was no legal reason for her to be denied bail, she was released.

"Midgardian justice is silly," she told him when he finished explaining it to her. "In Asgard, she would be imprisoned for the rest of her days in the dungeon."

"We don't do that here, babe."

"Maybe you should."

Steve shrugged. "That remains to be seen."

"If your police won't see that justice is served, believe me, Steve, I will."

"Ash, don't do anything stupid. They don't allow conjugal visits in New Jersey prisons."

She gave him a long look. "That's what you'd be concerned about?"

"No, but it's important."

"You're unreal, you know that?"

"Honey, she isn't worth it, okay? She'll get what she's got coming to her and I'd rather the state not come after you next."
