I paced nervously back and forth, reviewing my speech backstage as the rest of my peers prattled on about their excitement for graduation, summer plans, universities and what crazy thing they plan on doing when they're called up on stage. It always puzzled me, the conversations people have sometimes, what relevance does an idiotic action on stage hold for graduation? This is the time, if not any other time, to embody maturity. Some people just never grow up, if I spoke my thought out loud I'd be labeled as an over serious, tightwad who needs to have some fun. Surprised by the specificity of that insult? I been told it before, which is one of the reasons why I stay to myself. The microphone shuffled and the sound of our principle's voice echoed throughout the theater. I knew it was only a matter of time before I would be front and center at the mercy of all of my graduating classmates, their parents, their siblings, and other relatives. The entire experience was nerve wracking, I am not used to public interactions like the one I was participating in then.
"We are very pleased to have you all here on this special day, the attendance is outstanding today and I couldn't be happier. It has been a long journey to this awaited moment and I know it is a breath of fresh air for all of you. I bet you all can't wait to high tail it out of this place and start your lives! I feel for you!"
The audience laughed and clapped, while even the awaited graduates did as well. Our principle continued on.
"Honestly, I am blown away by the academic achievments of all of our pupils as well as the atheletic successes. We managed the rank of number 3 in the state of California! I'd love to ramble on and on with a ridiculous speech, but I'll leave that to the Valedictorian."
I caught that jibe and frowned a little, thanks, now no one is going to listen. The audience laughed, he just had to be the funny man didn't he.
"I'm just teasing! The speech will be exquisite! So without furthur ado, I give you the graduating class of 2010!" Principle Dixon finished.
The cerimonial music started and the line began to move, I grew even more nervous, I had to put my speech in my pocket so it wouldn't be drenched by my perspiration.
"Tina Abay...Sulley Adams...Frasier Adonis..." The names went on and on slowly, with applause from the audience.

"Damn, I look good." I told my reflection in the window of my Mazda rx 8.
Even in a graduation robe I was hot, it has got to be a sin to be this good looking. I stuck my cap on my head and strided up to the entrance of the Gibson Ampitheater, I was running a tad late for my graduation but I wasn't worried. My calculus teacher, Ms. Gordon was shocked when she let me inside, she expected me to be back stage already. As soon as I saw that scolding look come on to her face, I winked at her and flashed her my perfect teeth. Once her face softened I took it as my cue to slip backstage, I could hear our principle annoucing names, he was only on P. That gave me plenty of time to find my brother and get behind him. I found his brown mop of hair and slid behind him, obviously my brother has eyes in the back of his head because he knew I was there.
"Only you would be tardy to your own graduation." He grumbled, without even turning to face me.
I rolled my eyes and sighed.
"Bro, its not tardy its fashionably late."
"Whatever." He shook his head.
"Andrea Phelps." The principle called out.
I grinned at the sound of my girlfriend's name, I sauntered to the front of the curtain and peeked out of it to see her. I watched her click across the stage in her heels and shake the hands of our faculty, I waited for her to smile but she didn't. That always frustrated me about her, she never smiled its like she only had two emotions really, anger or she didn't care. Is not caring an emotion? Doesn't matter, she is hot and I know she has a great smile. In all the three years we've been together I've only seen a hint of a smile once, maybe she isn't into me anymore, I'm certainly losing my interest in her. I guess we'll just see how the summer goes, besides we'll be going seperate ways during college.
