Chapter 17

Emma looks at herself in the mirror after she has cut her arms up. She was white as a ghost and getting lightheaded. She looked back down at her arm and only saw blood. She hears someone bang on the door. She starts to walk towards the door. She is a few feet away from the door when all of the sudden everything goes black.

Emma wakes up in a hospital bed. She looks around confused. No one is around and all she can hear is the steady beeping of the heart monitor. She looks down at her arms and sees bandages wrapping them. She puts her head back on the pillow and stares at the ceiling. After a while she looks back down at her arms and notices something. She doesn't have Graham's shoelace. She looks around the bed and then around the room and still couldn't see it anywhere. She starts to panic. She breaths fast and heavy. Her heart monitors beeping speed is rising. Dr. Whale runs in the room and tries to calm Emma down.

"Emma! Calm down, everything is alright. You're alright."

Emma keeps franticly looking everywhere trying to find the shoelace.

"Emma! What's wrong?" Dr. Whale says concerned.

"The...The...The shoelace! Where!" Emma says stilling looking around.

"Emma! Calm down! I don't know what your talking about. What shoelace?" Dr. Whale said.

"It...It...It was...Graham's shoelace. I had...had it on my wrist." Emma says struggling to get the words out.

"Emma. There was no shoelace on your wrist when you came in." Dr. Whale said.

Emma started breathing heavily again and crying. Dr. Whale walked out of the room quickly. Emma just kept crying. Emma fell asleep crying.

Emma wakes up to a knock on the hospital room door. She looks over to the door and sees Killian standing there. He walks over to her and sits in a chair next to her bed.

"How are you doing, Swan?" Killian asked.

"I'm ok." Emma said as tears began to fill her eyes again.

"I have something for you." Killian said.

Emma looked over at Killian and her held up Graham's shoelace. Emma's mouth opened but the words didn't come out.

"I took it off of you before the people here could. They would have cut it off and threw it away. I cleaned it off. It had a ton of blood on it." Killian said.

He took Emma's wrist and tied the shoelace around it gently. When he was done he placed her wrist back in her bed and put his hands back in his lap.

"Thank you. Thank you, Killian." Emma said.

Killian just shrugged his shoulders like it was nothing. But to Emma it was something. That shoelace was all that Emma had left of Graham and Killian saved it. She truly appreciated that.

"So...Tell me how I got here, please." Emma said staring at the ceiling.

"Well, I came to your apartment to see how you were doing. I knocked on your door and waited a little bit. I heard you walk over to the door and then I heard a big BAM! Like you fell or something. So I knocked on the door again and there was nothing. I yelled your name a couple of times and there was no response. I know I shouldn't have broke your door open but I did and I found you on the floor with blood all over your arms. I quickly ran over to you and saw all the cuts on your arms. I noticed that blood was still gushing out of your arms and you were losing blood fast. I carried you down to my car and drove here. Before I got you out of the car, I took off the shoelace. I then raced you in here and they took you from there. They told me I couldn't stay with you and make sure you were alright. They told me they were doctors and they could handle you on their own. I backed off and went home. Then Dr. Whale called me and told me that you were up and asking about a shoelace. I cleaned the shoelace and drove down here. And here I am. And here you are." Killian said.

Emma looked into Killian's eyes for what seemed like forever.

"Thank you, Killian. You saved my life. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you. And thanks for saving Graham's shoelace." Emma finally said trying to hold back tears but failed.
