Who Am I?
My first breath in this world
was the biggest curse to befall humanity
why else must I continue
down this path of no redemption
for wrongs I never committed
for the right that will never come my way?I am not allowed to worship God
the way He should be
I am only allowed to stand
at the end of His holy shrine
and seek the touch of His handbut if there is a God
why does He tolerate this inequality
shown towards his innocent children? We pray for food
for shelter
for clothing.We pray for love
for acceptance
for kindness.We pray to live
because that's all we can do
as we watch our brothers
die of hard labour
as we watch our sisters
mortgage their bodies to greedy men
We pray to live
with our hands tied behind our backs.Shudra
Untouchable
Dalit. That is what the world sees of us
They do not see us for what we truly are:Human.
They never will.
