Fate's Fatal Flaw

I'll never forget the day I was walking down the street with my head bent low. I remember because that was the day I walked with my heart clutched in my tightly closed fists. The sound of a siren blaring by did nothing to sway me but the wind, subtle in its gust was what made me look up and see

It had been a morning like any other. The sun was shining bright like something out of a fairy tale. It gave reason for my soul to sing in joy as I had skipped down the street that day, wearing a smile. The wind danced and made my hair whip into my eyes. I stopped to put it back in its place when, through the frail blonde curtain, I saw

her. She was wearing a white dress and her sun-kissed hair was tied up in a violet ribbon. And in that second that spanned into infinity, I wanted nothing more than for her to be

him. On the other side of the road but the blur of cars didn't blind me from catching his sharp green eyes just as they caught

mine. I wanted to untie that ribbon, unfold her - know her secrets, hear her laugh, be close enough to catch the smile that was spreading on her mouth with

my own. I noticed how his hands had loosened by his side. I noticed how he opened his mouth to say something, as if it were a hushed whisper gentle enough to be

a touch of a kiss. I let go of my heart, let it  spiral out of control again. Her lips parted and she said something. I didn't hear it. I didn't need

heard. I'd whispered a secret back, stupidly hoping he'd be the one

to catch it.

to know.

Moments like these, left up to chance, are what keep me going, and though we would never see each other again, I discovered that

She

He

was fate's fatal flaw.

A/N: I know the structure for this poem is weird. Way, weird. But I wanted to make a come-back to this collection by trying something new. Personally, I like how it turned out. What do you think?
