DreamCatcher
She likes to sleep with her eyes open
to see the fairies dance before her
and the moonlight reflect off their feather light wings
leaving the trail of fairy-dust in their wake. There are no monsters beneath her bed
there are no shadows waiting to scare her
for when midnight arrives each night
she is the company of magical friends
of elves and witches
of fairies and dragons. And when the light breaks through the sky
her friends hide inside the trinket from which they came
the DreamCatcher closes her eyes
as the little girl surrenders to the dying magic of the night. When darkness descends upon the sky
the DreamCatcher sparkles
as the little girl crawls into bed
and waits with bated breath
for the magic to strike again.
