ALEXIS'S P.O.V.
It was my 18th birthday. I was feeling absolutely perfect all day long. My parents' present to me had been a trip to a campsite with a load of my friends. With the exception of my Sweet Sixteen party, that was the best thing I had EVER gotten for birthday. Gosh, I love my parents! That's what was in my thoughts all day long.
When the sun started to go down, the boys set up a bonfire and we all sat around it, getting ready to burn some marshmallows. The strange thing that happened was that all my friends started to turn around to look at Kate, my best friend, concern written all over their eyes. Almost like they didn't want her to be there. Even my boyfriend slash best male friend, Brad. After i glared at him for a few seconds, he quit staring and looked away, but not the others.
Well, not until Kate got up from her spot by my side and went to talk to Derek, the - for some kind of freaky reason I couldn't even start to understand - leader of all the guys in our school, and even the girls followed him. We were far away from him, but I somehow understood a few words of what she said. Something about a healer, the full moon and her knowing what was going to happen. When she got back, all the awkward stares were gone. All right. I was starting to think that something was really wrong in there.
In a few minutes, the sun was completely gone, and the full moon started to rise in the horizon. All of a sudden, I could feel all of the eyes focused on me, and i started to feel feverish. As the minutes passed and the moon rose, i felt more and more delusional, and understood less and less of what was going on around me. When it appeared over the trees, i started shaking violently. Brad pulled me to his chest and planted a swift kiss on the top of my head before backing off - like all the others. Only Derek and his partner in crime, Peter, stepped closer to me. They towered over my body when i fell to a crumpled mess on the ground.
My eyes locked into Derek's, and that was when he pain started. It was the worst headache i had ever had, and i was one of those very few people who had them a whole lot. With my eyes fixed on those ocean blue ones, i felt the pain spread as if through my veins. Soon, i felt like all my body was on fire. Out of the blue, I heard a snapping sound, and was shocked to realize it had been caused by my bones, as they broke. I looked down from Derek's eyes to my body, only to whimper in surprise. My skin was starting to get covered in... black FUR!!!
My whole body ached, and i felt like screaming in pain. A tortured howl escaped my lips. Wait... HOWL?! Oh, no. Oh, no. Oh, hell, no, no, no! I couldn't be a... I felt my irises and pupils get wider and rounder and my nose started to elongate into a muzzle, and i realized that i was. I could see everything more clearly, smell things i had never imagined i would be able to, hear even the faintest sound, and looking down at my body told me why. I was a wolf. A huge pitch black wolf.
That was when she came. The voice i had always heard in the back of my mind, when i felt like someone else was thinking, rather than myself; the voice i had always called, in lack of a better word, my consciousness. Except that it wasn't. *Oh, hello Alexis, dear. I am your wolf.*
I felt all of the eyes on me, and felt more than actually heard two more people joining us, watching from a distance. Confused, I looked up to the trees and saw my parents standing there, staring at me like everybody else. *W-what?* I couldn't think properly, i was way too confused for that. *They're here to see your first shift. It doesn't always go as smoothly as ours. In fact, usually the wolf must be fought and beaten until the human and the beast come to an agreement, and the human is in control, before you become a real werewolf. If the wolf wins the fight, the human... disappears, and the shifter goes wild. But you and i aren't usual at all, are we now? No, no. We see the future, and i know that our pack will need us soon. Both of us. I won't fight you, for two reasons. One, you would win, and i don't want to leave. Two, you need me. So i'll just stay here for you... for now.*
