ANTHONY’S P.O.V.

All weekend long, I couldn’t keep away from my mind the idea that in less than a week I’d finally get to know what my girlfriend had been hiding from me. I didn’t know whether to be excited or afraid of that.

Of course I didn’t want to have any secrets between us. Plus, I really was curious about all those things she had refused to explain to me. On the other hand, though, she had been so careful not to let anything slip, so worried about how I would react when she did tell me that I was a bit scared of that secret too. Scared that it might actually be something bad enough to justify all that caution.

ALEXIS’S P.O.V.

I got out of bed really early on Monday morning, determined to make my plan work that week. But all that determination had to be put aside for a while, when I caught the marvellous smell of frying bacon.

I rushed my morning routine and was out of my room in less than five minutes. I was surprised and confused to find a shirtless Derek getting out of his own room. I had to admit that was a nice sight, but I only had eyes for my mate.

He frowned, leaning against the door. “Hold on. If I’m here… and you’re here… then what’s with the smell of bacon?”

It seemed like both of us were a bit slow that morning, because we stayed there for a whole minute, before realizing the answer, at the same time. “Sasha!”

She appeared on the hallway, chuckling. “Good morning to you too. Come on, I’m almost done.” She ran her eyes down Derek’s body and raised her eyebrows appreciatively before disappearing back into the kitchen. “Nice abs, Beta. Your mate sure will be one hell of a lucky girl.”

We exchanged shocked looks, before I burst out laughing and we followed her. *I can’t believe she was so damn blunt about checking me out.* I answered aloud, amused. “That’s what you get for walking around with no shirt on. Gave her the right to check you out as much as she likes. I must say, I’d agree with her, if I didn’t have my mate to drool over.”

He pretended he hadn’t heard me as we got into the kitchen and sat at the table. In a minute, Sasha put plates with eggs and bacon in front of us. She took her own plate and sat by my side. Derek seemed decided not to look at her, which she seemed to find extremely amusing. “Chill boss, it’s not like I’m going to attack you. It was just a compliment.”

I chuckled as Derek shot her a questioning look, pointing out the detail I’d missed. “Boss?”

She nodded happily. “Yes, boss. I’m bound to Alexis’s pack, and you’re the Beta, so…” she shrugged.

I ate a bit of the perfect food and pointed my fork at her. “I thought you were bound to ME. You don’t really want to take orders from Derek.”

She smiled. “I’m bound to you AND the pack. But just think on the practical side. I’m going to help you in the war. You won’t be there all the time to tell me what to do or where I’m most needed in the middle of a battle, so I’ll need to listen to your seconds as well.”

I thought about it for a second. “Guess you’re right. But don’t let Derek get too happy about it. And make sure you follow my orders first. Especially if they’re conflicting.”
