ALEXIS'S P.O.V.

My wolf spoke again. *Can i run? I've been waiting for this day since we were born.* I smiled mentally at her. *Sure thing. Go ahead.* Having my consent, she took over our body, sprinting to a run immediately. She did leave me in control of our mind, but it did nothing to comfort me. The feeling of being trapped inside your own body was unnerving to say the least. I felt sorry for her. That was what she had to take all the time.

To distract myself from my discomfort, i started a conversation with Derek. *So, Derek. You know... I got the part concerning us being giant wolves, but this is very far from clear to me.* I felt my wolf's excitement at the run flood me, and suddenly i wanted to know what that really felt like. But i wouldn't spoil her moment, let alone take away the only freedom she had had for eighteen years. So i waited, paying attention to Derek's answer. *Yeah, i know. It's just that there's just too much to explain... i can't do it all in one night. But go on, ask away. What do you want to know?*

I had to think a little bit before i answered that. What did i want MOST to know? Considering that i obviously wanted to know EVERYTHING. So, first things first. I started with the basic. *Hm... Are we the only thing that came out of the horror novels to real life, or are all of the other freaks real too?*

His mental voice faked hurt. *Freaks?! Just because we turn into wolves? Never mind. I don't know about ALL of the other creatures being real, but we're not the only ones either. Most shifters are wolves, but there are a few others. You know, Feline and Bear Shifters. Oh, vamps, of course, Fae, and demons. We stumble upon some felines every now and then, but there are only about ten thousands of them throughout the whole world. As far as i know there are only ten Bears, and they all live as a family up in Greenland. Vamps are just vamps. Except for the Twilight crap, all you heard about them is likely to be true. Fae don't like to be seen much, so we don't know much about them. We just know they're out there, in the woods and stuff. I like demons. All sorts of cool powers, and awesome deal makers as well. Nope, they don't eat souls - or drag them to hell, for a thing. Yep, they'll gladly be your servants if you give them something good enough in exchange, but deals they make tend to be always better for them than to you. Something else?* (A/N: I DO LIKE TWILIGHT, BUT MOST OF MY CHARACTERS JUST CAN'T STAND IT)

*Yeah. You asked me if i'd heard about shifters. Well, thing is... i heard just too much about them... us. How do i know how much of what i heard is true and how much is just fantasy?* He avoided answering for a while. *That's a bit too vague, Alex. Which parts do you want to know if are true, exactly?* My wolf huffed in frustration, and i had to agree with her when she talked to me. *He's annoying.* *I know.* I directed my thoughts to him again. *Well, quite a few actually. Mating? This mink link working despite distance? How the alpha really gets to be Alpha? How the chain of command really works? Right now those are just the most pressing ones.*

*Well, mating is complicated, so i'll explain it last. One: The Pack Mind is affected by distance, but not much. The further you go, the less minds you can hear. A world apart, I was told it only works between each Alpha and their Beta and between fully mated couples. Oh! As Alpha, you can hear other Alphas, but no other wolves from other packs. Two: The Alpha can become Alpha by heritage, like you, when your parents step down; or by challenging the previous Alpha and winning. Oh, yeah. Alpha Daughters must have started the mating process before they can step up, i don't know why. Three: The chain of command is... well. You have your Beta, who's also Pack Enforcer, and your third, who's also Pack Mediator. Then you have the others. Their proximity to you interferes on how far away from them you can hear them, but they don't have any ranks. I know you'll ask, so no, Beta and Third status aren't inherited. For now I'll be your Beta, because you just changed and I was Alpha before you, so i have more experience, but you'll eventually have to choose someone exclusively out of trust, even if it is indeed me.*
