ALEXIS’S P.O.V.

News travelled fast in that small town in Alaska. On our second class on Monday the whole school was already talking about me being Anthony’s girlfriend. We ignored the rumours, but, though I concealed it as well as I could, I was jumping inside because he had done nothing to deny them.

During that first week of our relationship, I was the happiest girl in the world. It was so easy between us that I had already started to doubt the difficulties I had predicted for our mating. I wasn’t planning to hide my secret from him much longer any more. Derek was dying to go back home, and Tony had already revealed that he wanted to know the place I came from. Things were going faster and better than planned.

I felt like nothing should be changed in our routine, perfect as it was. On Friday, though, I did change it. I refused my mate’s ride home, choosing to walk. It was sunny, and I decided to enjoy the beautiful day. It felt incredibly good, especially because spending so much time with Anthony had gotten me in a good mood. I was being careless for a change. Of course I wouldn’t get away with that.

I didn’t see the girl coming until she was right in front of me. Startled, I halted and took in her appearance. She was extremely skinny, and showed it off by wearing tight black clothes from head to toes. Her hair was the colour of blood, and so were her lips… and her lined in black eyes. Her smell was definitely not human, but she was no shifter either. I took another breath and turned to my wolf side’s knowledge. *Oh shit! Ally, she’s a Demon!* I couldn’t attack her unless she did something against me, as we were in neutral land. And yet, we were close to my mate. Too close. And I was sure she was well aware of both.

She grinned when she realized I had recognized her for what she was, showing me her teeth were sharp as a feline’s. “How do you do, She-Wolf Alexis?” I froze as fear downed on me. She knew exactly who I was. “I am Sasha.”

Diplomacy. I would try to be diplomatic. Maybe she wasn’t after trouble. It was the best bet I had. If that didn’t work, I could always call Derek for backup. I wasn’t naïve enough to think I could take her alone. “How do you do, Sasha?” My voice was even and empty of all emotion, while dripping with my inherited authority. The Luna voice, to which everyone in my pack was forced to submit. It was the only way I could think of not showing weakness.

She nodded, seemingly satisfied by something. “Well, LUNA Alexis. I’ll go straight to the point. I have a deal to offer you.”

Derek’s words from my first Full Moon echoed in my head. ‘awesome deal makers… always better deal for them than for you’ I started getting worried about what I had gotten myself into. I would have to be extra careful with her. “What kind of deal?”

Her eyes sparkled, and I struggled not to gulp or shudder or something. Gosh, that girl scared me. “I’ll help you and your pack in the war that’s coming over you. Believe me; I have many powers that will certainly come in handy. And I will put myself at your service, from now to the day you decide to relieve me from it.”

That didn’t sound bad. I could use all the help I could get. But that wasn’t even a deal. She had just told me her part. There had to be a drawback, something to twist this to her advantage. “And what is there to you in that?”

She smirked at me, and once again I had to struggle not to react. That was scary. “In exchange, I only ask for two small favours. One is in the name of my kind. For my services, you will vote for the return of the Demons to the High Council when required. It is not fair that we should be left out when we have done no wrong. The other is in the name of a lost friendship. In the near future, a special man will come to you asking for help. For my help in the war, you will give it to him.”
