The sound of the ringing filled the air, blending into an ear-splitting symphony of mismatched notes and out of synch voices. The Doctor grimaced at the din as he ran his sonic over Miss Brontes' phone trying to get the slightest clue at what, who or possibly, even when '044' was.

out of the corner of his eye he watched the impossible Miss Bronte dart away, hands clamped over her ears. pocketing the mobile he hurried after her following her back down the puddled hallway and into her sodden classroom. She braved the noise to grab a satchel bag and sling it over her shoulder. She gestured something to him with her hands but the Doctor shook his head. She looked as if she made a loud irritated sigh and darted past him. Again he followed musing to himself how he both disliked this game of chase and how he, actually, found it rather enjoyable....slightly.

He found himself standing behind her in Mr Guildfords office. She tugged at a draw with a faded, peeling sticker, the middle draw of a  heavy looking filing cabinet. The draw would not budge and The Doctor ws sure she mouthing some words that were best drowned out in the awful symphony of seemingly unending ring-tone torture. Finally she rummaged down the front of her light blue hoodie and pulled out her sonic pen, buzzing at the lock.

The Doctor was struck with a sense of awe again at the craftsmanship of the slender golden pen. He glanced from it to the equally small and slender Miss Bronte and he realised the awe was not from the amazement of seeing another sonic devise but the fact that it was being used, so....normally by this impossible, mysterious Human woman with a look of such determination written on her face as she yanked the draw open.

'What are you smiling at? Get over here!' He barely made out her words as she shouted over to him. Clicking back into full Doctor mode he joined her. The draw was full of mobile phones, as well as cluttered with lighters, chewing gum packets, Mp3 players and various other odds and ends that had somehow found their way onto school property. All of the mobile phones buzzed, bleeped and sang and all of them flashed '044 calling'.

The Doctor and Miss Bronte looked up at each other. Both recognising that this was more than odd. The draw vibrated under their fingers as they held it steady and suddenly, everything. just. stopped.

Silence.

Silence and the echo of the vibration under their finger tips.

Miss Bronte still looked at the Doctor and the Doctor still looked back, mind racing under his clam demeanour.

"ugh, I thought that would never stop." She broke the silence, shaking her head and rubbing her ears.

"044" the Doctor said outloud as he thought. "044...."

"You need to look at this..." Miss Bronte said weakily but the Doctor was too lost in thought to really notice. "Mr Smith!"

"DOCTOR!" she snapped

That got his attention. He turned and joined her as she bent forward looking at the computer screen of the laptop sitting on Mr Guildfords desk.

A list of numbers rolled down the laptops black screen. Th same numbers that had been rolling down the screen of the old Bradfords computer.

Miss Bronte pressed the power button but it stubbornly remained on, the numbers scrolling down the screen. She buzzed it with her sonic to no effect. She made an irritated noise.

"Where's the I.T department?" The Doctor asked her.

"Follow me..." She half sprinted out of the small office with the Doctor close behind. They ran up a flight of stairs and into a overly modern looking room that smelt of new carpet and window cleaner. The black shiny monitors sitting on there beech wood coloured desks all scrolled with the same list of un-ending numbers. Immediately the Doctor leapt into one of the blue computer chairs and put everything he knew to use......nothing.
