'Episode' 2 Mothballs Part 5

Kitty fell into step behind the Doctor 

"So how are we going to 'give' the judoon his suspect, exactly?" she asked wearily. At the moment she really believed that the Doctor could quite posibly accomplish anything-including materialising a space criminal from nothing.

"Ah! THIS!" he brandished the little flashing green sim-card "is everything we need!" he grinned to himself before turning to her "why are you covered in....what is that...slime?" 

he stopped a centimetre in front of her, nearly causing her to crash into him and with a finger scooped some of the sickly blue gunk from her shoulder. He smushed it between his fingers, rubbing it slightly before pulling his fingers apart creating a string of goop between them. then, he tasted it. 

He pulled a face, tongue lolling out of his mouth as he grimaced. "ugh, ugh...no...nope...that's..goo. UUURGH!! goo..." he licked his lips and shivered "tastes like eggs on old socks..." he wiped his hand down kittys clean arm to get rid of it.

"HEY!!" she protested but the doctor didn't really hear her.....his magnificent brain had just connected some distant dots.....he looked up, knowing what he would most likely see.....

".... it tastes like....." he mumbled searching the sky until his brown eyes spotted it. A cloud of heavy bodies, spindly legs dangling as thier dusty wings flapped in sync ".....Yulpee!" He gasped turning back to Kitty. 

"oh, yeah....them." 

";oh, yeah...them' !!?? " he mimicked in disbelief "They are.....this is...."

Kitty braced herself, not exactly sure if the Doctor was angry or-

"FANTASTIC!" he exclaimed "look at them! living, breathing, yulpee......"

"Adam tried to feed me to them." Kitty said bluntly. She was relieved the Doctor wasn't annoyed but by the same time she was taken aback that he seemed like an excited kid seeing thier favorite animal up close for the firsttime.

"Clever! oh, very clever!" 

"excuse me? I almost get eaten by some giant moths and you say it's clever!?" 

The Doctor looked surprised for a second "well, no, not the you being bit...."

She just gave him a look, daring him to continue and redeem himself. So, naturally, he did.

"Yulpee are an ancient, ancient species. Even the galaxy they originated from doesn't even exist anymore. The planet they came from burned to a cinder by it's own sun....they are the stuff of nightmares when I was a child. Explorers from other races bought thier eggs back as a delicacy-it wasn't long before that new planet became the yulpees new home. Ever adapting to each new climate within a generation. And, oh, how they travelled, reaking desolation wherever they ended up- sucking the life out of every planet they happened on . Civillisations wiped out in days. The timelord council backed an extermination that all but wiped out the Yulpee. Some eggs were frozen and a queen was caught for study by a team of scientists on Georioptia, not far from Gallifrey, It ended badly but those eggs were said to still be out there somewhere-a collectors piece worth trillions......"

Kitty followed the Doctors gaze up to the swarm of circling yulpee. A few drops of rain fell down onto her face and the sky let out an angry rumble. 

"Surely a storm will stop them?"

"Nah,They've lived in worse." He shrugged "You said Adam tried to feed you to them?" 

"Yes, and that very nearly happened." she shuddered remebering the long needle like tongue jabbing at her from the big fuzzy head. 

The doctor took Kittys arm and looked at the thin scratch the Yulpee had left. "Iron-Yulpee are able to digest any form of liquid Iron. Most species have some type of Iron in thier blood or thier vital organs...there even was a civillisation they wiped out who survived on the iron in thier water. Yulpee are hard wired to detect any form of Iron.......Lucky for you, you taste bad."

"oh, cheers."  Everything the Doctor had said about the Yuplpee ringing in her ears made her blood run cold. They were more than just giant ugly moths-they were like  a plague. Able to destory any world they landed on and right now they had landed on one where the whole population was dinner.

The Judoon prodded the Doctor in the shoulder with a grunt. Forcing him forward. 

"steady on!" the Doctor steadied himself again and pocketed the sim card thing. "I think things just got a little more complicated." 

Loud shouts and screams of terror interrupted all thier thoughts as quicker than the flash of lightening that lit up the sky the Yulpee had descended. Thier huge bodies gliding down effortlessly, spdily legs outstretched and tongues rolling into deadly points. 

"They're starting to feed!" yelled the Doctor. taking off in the direction of the screaming. 

Heart pounding Kitty followed as fast as she could run, the rain had begun to fall more heavily now and she splashed through slowly forming puddles as she ran trying to keep the Doctor in sight. The judoon thudding along behind her.

She turned the corner and was pushed back by the Doctor. swiping his arm away from blocking her path she ogged passed him and out onto the open road. A few people ran passed her shouting, A man grabbed her shoulder breifly telling her to "RUN!" 

The road was a muddle of people and huge furry bodies, the sky immediatedly above alive with beating wings. 

She watched in horror as a Man darted from underneath a car where he had hidden, only to be chased down by a Yulpee. It's spidly legs reaching out, knocking the man to the ground. The great furry head swivelling in anticipation, the needle like tongue rising-

"Kitty!" The Doctor blocked her view and pulled her into an alley.

"That man-!" She tried to pull free even though she knew she couldn't help him now.

"Kitty! focus! listen to me." The Doctors voice was calm and steady. She swallowed. "We need to get that judoon ship down here and we need to help them find who is responsible. I can take care of that."

"what about the Yulpee?" 

"Bananas!" 

"what?"

"we need bananas!"
