A starchy white robe was forced over her head as she struggled with the old woman holding her hands behind her back.
"Do you have to be so rough?" Kitty exclaimed through the fabric as it passed over her face. An elderly man helped force her other arm through a wide arm hole before her wrists were grabbed again. "Ouch! What are you trying to do? Cut off my circulation?! A little less tight-please!" Her plea was ignored and instead the old man stepped in front of her and smeared some sort of slimy cold liquid across her forehead. She shook her head "Ugh! Gross!" she mumbled. "Can't believe I'm being forced to be baptized again....."
"Sit." barked the old woman as she was jerked into a seat and her legs and arms tied up with rope.
A little girl with fiar curly hair was dragged in by the wrists. Her light blue skirt was smeared with dirst and grass stains, her elbows bore the same kind of smears, her eyes puffy and red and cheeks streaked with tears. She squealed in fear as the old man approached her with a rope. She gave him a sharp kick in the shin, causing him to hobble backwards.
A younger woman appeared, taking the robe from the old man. She was a tall blonde woman, her hair in a loose bun at the nape of her neck, she wore a lacy white shirt and a sweeping wide blue skirt. "Maggie, dear, It's Mummy." The woman cooed as she knelt in front of her holding the robe.
"You're not my mummy" the little girl recoiled.
"Of course it's me-I'm you're Mother Maggie. You should listen to me. Don't you want to be like us?"
"NO!" Maggie shouted trying again to pull free from the grip of the woman who held her tightly.
"Margaret! You will listen to me! stop this. You're brother wasn't this naughty. Do you want to be a naughty girl Maggie?"
"No." sniffed Maggie
"Be a good girl and put this robe on. There's a good girl." The woman shoved the robe hastily over Maggies head as she squirmed. "Tie her up."
The instruction was followed and Maggie was stuffed onto a chair and tied up quickly.
Kitty bristled with anger as the tiny Maggie shook with more sobs. "Psst Maggie." she whispered, trying to get her attention.
"who are you?" she whispered back. "are they going to baptize you too?"
Kitty nodded "Yeah-I guess so. I'm a friend of Peggys."
The little girls lip trembled as the thought of Peggy must have upset her.
"hey, look!" Kitty quickly tried to distract her and stuck her tongue out at the back of the woman in the blue skirt.
Maggie giggled and did the same.
"What are you doing?" the woman turned to look at them with those creepy misted over whiteish eyes.
"Nothing." Kitty replied and stuck her tongue out again when she thought the woman had turned around but she judged wrongly and the woman caught her roughly by the chin, making her trap her tongue painfully between her teeth. "ouwth." she grimaced.
"Less of the cheek would suit you nicely." The woman hissed as her long nails dug into Kittys cheeks. "You might reek of impossible things, out of place girl, but you're Doctor can't stop this cleansing. Poor thing you are. So lost, so lonely and so very, very damned. You might dream of the stars and what lies beyond them but I can promise you, there is nothing there for you."
Kitty yanked free of the nails pressing into her skin "And I can promise you, you-whatever you are, you've seriously underestimated who your dealing with."
