Kitty pressed her back against the hot rock behind her. She could feel the ever-present sweat trickling down her brow wetting her eyelashes as she squeezed her eyes shut tightly.
Mentally she was telling herself she was not afraid. Not afraid of the endless narrow tunnels, not afraid of the oppressive darkness, not afraid of the overbearing heat, not afraid of the...whatever-it-was that they had just ran from and not afraid of being without the Doctor.
No. She could not be afraid.
She would not be afraid.
She took a deep, slightly shaky breath and opened her eyes. The dim blue light on her visor only gave off a light just strong enough to light the rocky mass in front of her.
Finn nudged closer to her. "What was that thing?" he breathed.
"I don't know Finn but I think it's best to not find out."
"My mum was right. There IS something else here.....do you think it's dangerous?"
"It's hard to say but we have to be careful and just assume that it is, for now."
Finn snorted.
"What?" she asked his slight amusement confusing her.
"My mum used to say, 'Never assume anything' because the first three letters of assume spell....."
"...did you just call me an Ass, Finn?" She gave him a half smile under the glow of her visor.
"Maybe." The Boy shrugged and she nudged him playfully.
"Right, come on. Let's get going." She found her footing and began pushing herself through the ever narrowing twisting crevice of rock.
She ignored the nagging thought that she really did not have any idea where she was going, where she was leading them, only the memory of where they had come from.
The rounded a narrow bend and thankfully squeezed into a wider area. She could make out old frayed wires hanging from the ceiling like tendrils and the crumpled metal panels fixed to the smoothed down walls. They definitely did not pass this way before. Kitty turned around, about to order Finn back the way they had came when he tripped, stumbling forwards, knocking into her. With an inelegant 'OOF' she tried to catch him, lost her own footing and they both fell backwards.
The crash was deafening in the stale silence as old metal failed to break their fall, giving way and sending them tumbling heavily down what felt like stairs.
Kitty felt the wind knocked out of her as she lay on her stomach. Dazed but thankfully unhurt. The light on her visor flickered, sending a sudden chill of panic through her as she tried to hoist herself back up, finding herself weighed down by Finn.
She shook her head, as the crumpled sign on the floor in front of her became clearer "STORAGE VAULT A12." she read aloud.
"Storage Vault?" Finn echoed and clumsily he got up, momentarily pushing Kitty back down. "Oh my god....we've found it."
"Found what?" She finally stood up.
It looked like the interior of a bank, or what she imagined the interior of a bank to look like. walls Lined with little metal safes, some of the doors hung open, A pile of metal boxes plastered with faded unreadable markings rested on top of one another lay haphazardly in the corner amongst rubble and little particles of disturbed dust floated in the light of her visor.
"They must have kept the platinum here!" Cried Finn "There must be something left-even a little bit...." Finn began searching through the room frantically. Kitty could hear him saying "please, please, please..." under his breath.
