Her nearly desperate shout was lost in another deafening rumble, a thick cloud of dust enveloping her vision and she gripped onto the body in her arms. She could hear the harsh crack of stone meeting stone, sharp and solid. It felt like an eternity staring at the sheet of thick yellow-grey dust until the rumble finally subsided. She shifted her weight on her feet, realising she was in a crouching position, the body she clung too resting between her legs.
Kitty waved her arm in front of her face, through the grainy dust. It didn't feel like her own arm at all.
"Ok...ok...ok..." she mumbled to herself as her heart hammered and she tried to calm her breathing.
The body moved, turning to face her. It was Finn. His eyes wide with terror, sweat sticking his hair to his head. He looked pale.
"It's okay." she tried to reassure him "are you okay?"
He gave a heavy nod from inside his suit.
The dust around them slowly cleared, settling on the ground and the fallen boulders scattered around them.
"Oh my god- we're stuck! we're trapped in here!" Finn leapt up, pressing himself against the uneven wall of rock that now separated them and the rest of the crew....and the Doctor. "MUM!...MUUM!" He started to shout, panic framing his voice as he tried to claw at tiny gaps in the boulders.
"Hey!..Hey!" Kitty rose to her feet, slightly unsteady but managed to gently grab his wrist. "Finn! stop!...please."
The boy turned to face her, his eyes looked red and puffy standing out on his pale skin.
"You could cause it to collapse." she stated calmly.
He tore away from her pacing up and down for a moment before he sat on the edge of a crushed metal box jutting out from underneath a boulder. It only held his slight weight for a moment before it caved in, sending him flying backwards.
"Finn!" Kitty rushed forwards. They boys legs stuck up in the air as he tried to wriggle free from the metal. She took his hand and pulled him out. They stood stock still for a moment staring down at the twisted metal. Just visible inside was a suit, very similar to their own. The visor was covered in thick dust as it lay at an awkward angle.
Kitty swallowed, she edged forwards and quickly wiped away some of the dust. "Don't look!" Kitty recoiled instantly, pushing the young boy away.
Various cracks snaked across the visor, she could see them now. Dark, dried blood smeared across the inside. Pale white dead eyes stared back at her from the face of a ginger bearded man. His jaw was obviously broken as well as his neck. A hand rested in his own, a slightly smaller one, pressed against his chest. Underneath, Kitty could just make out the name swen onto his suit "Adalric". He'd died a long time ago, from a fall inside the box, which she now realised was a Lift. Had been a lift.
The door, which Finn had sat on, was now caved in. Metal crumpled like thrown away paper. She could just make out a symbol imprinted on the door. A silver moon with some kind of crane or digger adorning the top of it. The words "Astra Mining Corp" wrapped around it.
"R.I.P" She stated quietly. "I'm sorry." before turning away and looking back at the solid wall in front of them.
"We're going to die here." Finn let out a sob his voice and hands shaking.
"No."Kitty shook her head in her suit. "No.Listen to me, Finn. The guy I'm with, The Doctor, he won't let that happen. He's clever, really clever. He'll figure this out-I promise." She squeezed his shoulder.
