Falling.
The doctor hated falling.
It was one of those peculiar feelings, a sudden onset of your stomach saying hello to your hearts.
Also the general speed of falling was always very inconvenient. He has always been a quick thinker- even for a Timelord but he found that falling and thinking of how to stop falling was a tiny bit challenging.
just a bit.
He moved quickly, nearly battling with the rock that fell alongside him. He reached and firmly grabbed the old rusty track now suspended in thin air.
Oh, other person.
His thoughts caught up with him and he caught the hand of Dr Asper, stopping her fall.
"Thank you." She breathed staring up at him from below.
"No problem."
"Marie! are you okay?" Darren called down as his shape loomed down from above. His hardy face only illuminated by the blue light emanating from his visor.
"Yeah-Just about." She called back up.
"Right-we're going to pull you back up." Darren replied. There was a short discussion and then slowly a pair of feet began to cautiously sidle across the single beam of track.
The doctor could feel the rusty metal bending slightly, giving to the weight.
"STOP! BAD IDEA...BAD IDEA..." He quickly shouted. "Bad Ide-...uh-oh."
with a groan the metal gave way and once again, he was falling, a useless rusty old bit of broken metal now gripped in his hand.
Kitty trudged her way through the never ending caves, Finn following behind closely. Sweat beaded on her forehead, running down her forehead and cheeks and she wished she could wipe it off. The small relieving blasts of cold air and water had become less frequent and slightly less colder. The slimy material of the suit was sticking to her now, making the whole experience just that little bit more uncomfortable.
Somehow she had guided Finn back into a open chamber, three pathways carved into the rock met them and she stopped. Trying to logically determine which one they had taken when they had began their search for the missing crew member. She tried walking to each entrance and looking ahead to see if anything would jolt her memory. The constant heat an irritating distraction.
She sighed audibly. licking her lips with her dry tongue. None of the paths seemed right...perhaps she had already taken a wrong turn.
"Which way now?" Finn asked panting.
"Uhm...."
A long scraping sound made them both jump. It sounded like something heavy being dragged against the rock.
"What was that?" Finn asked her, stepping closer to her.
"I'm not sure." she replied quietly. She squinted in the direction she thought the sound had come from, the pitch black tunnel on the farthest right. Maybe her eyes were playing tricks on her but she thought she saw something move. "Did you see that?" she asked the boy.
"see what?"
okay, just her imagination.
The scraping noise sounded again with an odd click-clacking noise at the end. She grabbed Finns arm, bracing herself. Mentally choosing not to have a horror-movie cliche moment of calling 'Hello?'
A huge greyish-white shape emerged from the tunnel. A wide hulking mass of rounded shell rippling as it stretched forwards in the dim light.
Okay-so it wasn't her imagination.
