"I can't believe they let Finn come."
Bellamy, Octavia, Finn, Clarke, Raven and I were finally out of Camp Jaha, ready to try and save our friends. Though Octavia wasn't too happy that Finn came, I was just glad that they let us go.
We came up with a plan before we left. Abby and a couple of guards insisted on coming with us. It felt weird, being out in the forest with them. They just didn't fit in. I felt like they were invading our space.
"He's the best tracker we've got," Bellamy commented to his sister. The two of us spent the night together, sleeping in my room like we did before. I don't even think we left the room after Bellamy and I talked. My stomach finally loosened up after figuring everything out between us. I felt like I could finally breathe.
Things were starting to come back to normal; whatever normal was down here.
"Don't forget to look up," Bellamy called out to the newbies. "The Grounders use the trees. That's how we lost John Mbege."
"That feels like so long ago," I said absentmindedly, thinking back to the time we went looking for Octavia. That was the first time I'd killed someone. The first of many. That was also the night Bellamy told me that we have to lose a little to save a lot. The quote that has been stuck in my head ever since.
"Back when we had the run of the place," Octavia said to me. She lowered the volume of her voice, so the guards wouldn't hear. Abby was busy talking to Clarke, anyways. "Seriously, I don't know how much longer I can stand these assholes."
"It's pissing me off, too," I told her, "but the man power will help us save everyone. Even Lincoln. We just have to convince them that this place is not like what they've made it up to be."
"Well, you're the manipulative one, I hope you can accomplish it," she said to me. I nodded, looking back at the people in guard jackets and guns. They looked like Bellamy when I first met him. Thank god they don't have the slicked back hair, though.
Bellamy caught a glimpse of me, and I gave him a soft smile. I turned back around before I tripped over anything like I usually did, and I felt him walk up beside me.
"You don't have to keep checking on them," he whispered to me. "I've got your back. And they know how to shoot a gun."
"Do they know how to shoot while being restricted and not shoot themselves?" I challenged him.
"Nobody is as great at combat as you, Zen," he smirked. I smiled back, but I was still worried that these guards were going to get us all killed. I was more worried about them than Finn, and that was saying a lot.
"We're coming up to the forest opening," Raven called out. The guards, plus Abby and Clarke, walked in front of us to get to the hill top. It was time to execute our plan.
I gently touched Bellamy's hand, who looked at me and nodded. We started to walk backwards, hoping to not make any noise. I tapped Octavia on the shoulder as I did so, and she joined us on sneaking away. Once we were behind a solid set of trees, we booked it.
After a good couple minutes of running, we stopped to catch our breaths. I readjusted the swords on my hips.
"According to Clarke, before the bombs, there were buildings everywhere here," Bellamy said to us. "Im guessing some of them had access to the bunker. So we're looking for ruins, anything that's manmade, okay?"
We looked around for two minutes before I heard one of the guard's voices echo through the woods.
"Hey! Blake, Burrows, let's go right now!"
