I stood beside Joel as Mitch shoveled the last bit of dirt onto Jerome's grave. His face was red and soaked in tears, although no more fell. Choco had just finished covering Lachlan's grave in the coarse dirt and was standing beside D20.
I decided to say a few words even though I hadn't known either of them too well. "Um...Lachlan was always very nice and friendly to me. And so was Jerome. I'm sorry that they had to go the way they did because they didn't deserve it. No one who died deserves it. Even Kenny." I looked to the grave next to Lachlan's in which we had laid Kenny to rest.
Mitch spoke up next, "Jerome, you were my best friend. I don't know how I'm going to live without you, but I will try because I know that that's what you would have wanted. I'm going to miss you, but I hope wherever you are now, you're happy." He broke down again and covered his face with his hands. Choco put his arm around Mitch.
I made eye contact with D20 across the graves and he jerked his head slightly towards the forest. I followed him into the woods.
He sat gingerly at the edge of a lake. His side must still hurt him. I stood behind him.
"Thank you for not telling anyone else about what you saw, but I wanted to explain myself. When I saw D4, I didn't want to kill him because I love him. I've loved him for a very long time and us being separated doesn't seem to have changed that. If you're not okay with that then you can tell the others and I'll leave. I just hope that you're a good enough friend that you'll give me some warning before you do so that I can get out of here. Mitch would probably blame me for Jerome and Lachlan's deaths and want to kill me."
He picked up a rock and skipped it across the glass-like surface of the water. I watched it as it jumped three times.
"I'm not going to tell anyone if you don't want me to, D20. I'd like to think I'm a better friend than that. I have one condition though. You can't let it affect your loyalty to our group. It's probably better for you anyways because it won't give you away."
He looked relieved at my response, but stayed where he was.
"Are you going to come back?" I asked. I noticed his hand flick to the sword at his side before reaching down to pick up another rock.
"Nah. I'm gonna stay here for a while to clear my head." He replied as he skipped the second rock across the lake.
I turned and left him by the water. I worried that something more than his D4 dilemma was wrong with D20. Mr. Camptastic seemed to be lost in his head, my words unable to break the barrier.
Deluxe20's POV
I watched Speedy as he trudged back to camp. As soon as he was out of view, I retrieved the small paper that had appeared in my pocket after Deluxe had left last night.
It was blackmail. It simply said;
To keep your love, you must kill Speedy.
I balled it up and lobbed it at the water where it began to disintegrate. I was fucking done with this damn game. It thought it was fun to mess with our minds. First it got me killed and I lost a year of my life; a year to spend with my friends, with Deluxe. Then it brings me back, but I'm not healthy. Instead I have a huge stab wound that won't stop bleeding for some reason. Now it presents me with a note that tells me that I have to choose between Speedy and Deluxe.
"How am I supposed to make that decision?" I questioned the air.
"What decision?" Came a voice.
I spun around and a figure, draped in shadows from the falling darkness stood at the tree line.
"Who's there?" I asked, squinting.
He stepped away from the trees and I took in his strange appearance. He didn't wear a shirt, just a sheath that stretched across his shoulder and chest, A pickaxe swung from his side and he wore black pants. His hair was snow white; spiked up at the top and shorter on the sides.
I took a step back as he approached. He was unarmed, but had easy access to the glittering sword on his back, whereas I merely had a stone sword I had made out of laziness.
"Who are you?" I asked wearily.
"I am Bdoubleo, but you can call me Bdubs or John." He answered, an unnerving smile on his face.
"Where did you come from?"
"Got here about five days ago. I woke up where you're standing. I noticed your friends and you moving in and I've been watching you. One of you finally came out here alone so I thought I'd be safe to talk to you. I hope I wasn't wrong."
"I don't think you will be. Where did you come from?"
"I just went to sleep and woke up here. Had to fight a zombie as soon as I got here and almost died. Just thought I was having a normal senior year and then this happened. I just moved to California this year."
"Did you go to Amador?"
"Yeah, just started a couple weeks ago."
"That's why they didn't add you to the groups before they entered the game. You were just too late. I think they'll understand if I bring you back to my group. If you're close to us, you're probably supposed to be in our group anyways so they'll have to accept you. Follow me."
[A/N: Hey people. So hope you guys weren't too confused with the POV change. I tried to make it obvious. The chapters were just really short on their own.
I wanted to thank you guys for all the votes and comments and stuff. It really means a lot to me when you guys show your love:)
